Ruby & Bella’s Opens in SaksWorks on Greenwich Avenue

We’ll expect to see this hummus on your IG

You may not be able to purchase a Polo shirt or a pair of khakis at 265 Greenwich Avenue any longer, but you can set up shop and work remotely there, or you can host a meeting, attend an event, take a yoga or HIIT class, and have a sit-down dinner all under one roof.

What was Ralph Lauren is now SaksWorks, a membership-based work meets life concept. With its flagship in Saks Fifth Avenue and a second in Brookfield Place, SaksWorks Greenwich is part of the company’s expansion that will soon follow with locations in Manhasset and Eastchester in the vacant Lord & Taylor.

We’ll let you decide if this concept or if membership is for you. If it is, and if it isn’t, you can still visit the Greenwich location membershipless (totally aware that isn’t a word) for a cup of coffee, lunch, or dinner.

What’s common in all SaksWorks is an anchor restaurant of some sort. In the case of Greenwich, that restaurant is Ruby & Bella’s, named after owner Richard Baker’s dogs.

Salmon belly tartare (top) offered as an amuse-bouche on this particular evening. Appropriate for sharing are burrata with prosciutto and piquillo peppers (bottom left) and roasted shishitos (bottom right)

The idea here is a homey setting, first class hospitality, and a contemporary American menu.

At the helm at Ruby & Bella’s is Jason Leckey, a former sous chef at Brian Lewis’ The Cottage (also opening soon on The Avenue), who’s displaying some of that fine dining pizzazz and plating here with everything from salmon belly tartare to somehow jazzing up a usually humble looking hummus.

The rest of R&B’s offerings are approachable whether you’re gluten-free, vegan, or a full-on carnivore. There are salads or an omelet during the day if you’re keeping it light, or a massive burger enveloped in cheddar and topped with crispy bacon and smoked onion aioli if you require something much more substantial.

The “so far” hit of the lunch menu, though, is their double decker lobster club with jalapeño mayo, bacon, tomato, and avocado. If you can’t tackle this big boy of a sandwich, there’s a dynamic duo of a bowl of New England clam chowder accompanied by a mini lobster roll that may be more suitable for you.

Aviation Negroni (left) and a couple of High Fashions (Woodford Reserve, Fernet Branca, lemon, simple syrup).

Whole roasted baby cauliflower with tahini-pomegranate syrup and “twelve seed” dressing.

If you order something meaty, you get to choose your own weapon.

At 5:30, the menu changes over just a bit to offer fine wines, some standard beers, and cocktails to match up with entrées like a whole roasted cauliflower, wild caught salmon, lobster cavatelli with black truffle butter, and a bone-in filet mignon with improved fast food style fries.

Currently, the restaurant is open from Tuesday – Saturday for lunch (11:30 – 2:30) and for dinner from (5:30 – 10), while the café holds hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Saturday.

Even if you’re not a SaksWorks member, maybe you’ll stop by Ruby & Bella’s for a bite.
