For those not familiar with The Food Crate, have a quick read here, or take my word for it when I say this is Connecticut’s best quality overnight delivery service, serving up chef-sourced specialty and high end prepared foods anywhere in the US (and based right here in New Haven). Why are they the best? In 1982 Laudano’s family started a specialty food company distributing goods to restaurants across Connecticut. Every CT chef you know, knows Jordan Laudano. The Food Crate is deeply rooted in the research, sourcing and creation of high end ingredients, and his connections to “best in class” products near and far goes back a generation. What does this mean for you? It means when you dig in to your Atlantic Steampot, every ingredient, from the lobster to the shrimp and corn, has gone through rigorous sourcing and testing to make sure it tastes and cooks just right for you and your guests.

Now back to that seafood smorgasbord…

The ATLANTIC STEAMPOT was inspired by The Food Crate’s owner Jordan Laudano’s experiences as a young boy fishing along the CT shoreline. The aforementioned foodie family often spent weekends on their Boston Whaler, clamming, crabbing and fishing from Guilford to the North Fork of Long Island. These trips made Laudano, an expert in most edible treats from the sea, and gave him an appreciation for creating flavor profiles that properly enhance fresh seafood.

I was lucky enough to visit The Food Crate warehouse to watch the team taste-testing and assembling the Atlantic Steampot, as well as their Lobster Roll Kits, New England Clam Chowder, and Lobster Bisque. Every component was clean and fresh, with just the right amount of seasoning to treat the seafood with respect but also bring out the “fresh from the sea” flavor. I can’t stress enough the “best in class” nature of these ingredients. Laudano doesn’t mess around, and this was made apparent as I watched him and his chef try three different snow crab purveyors before landing on the final vendor.

A quick shoutout also needs to be had for The Food Crate’s Lobster Roll Kit (makes 6 nicely portioned rolls). I’ve had a lot of lobster rolls in my day, but the jaw-dropping quantity of perfectly cooked chunks of lobster, lightly dressed in a wonderful creamy mayo aioli = lobster heaven. The Lobster Kit comes with 1 pound of claw and knuckle lobster meat, 6 French butter brioche rolls & 6 oz seasoned creamy mayo aioli (on the side) and will cost you $89.75. Oh hello summer.

In conclusion, we encourage you to try any and all of The Food Crate’s seafood offerings: the Atlantic Steampot, Lobster Roll Kits, New England Clam Chowder, and Lobster Bisque. They are all a great value compared to the prices you might find at your local restaurant, and are in every way comparable or superior to your favorite CT seafood dining spot.
