Hops is on the brain and Oktoberfest is on the calendar. It’s that delightful time of year to gather with friends, German-style! Chomp into a giant pretzel, grill a brat, raise a stein (or 20, if you are partaking in a competition), and then toast, toast, and toast some more. Across our state, Oktoberfest celebrations are happening and you’ve simply got to get in on one of them. A better time will not be had! Prost!

The annual Oktoberfest celebration at the Beer Garden at Shippan Landing is returning for two weekends in September! The Beer Garden will be offering a bounty of German-style Oktoberfest beers, American fall brews and ciders to pair with Black Forest bratwurst and pretzels. In addition to a menu of fall classics, the Beer Garden will also be hosting festivities for the whole family including cornhole, stein-hoisting competitions, and live music. Oktoberfest will be held September 15th through the 18th, and September 22nd through the 25th.

Hop Haus is the place to be during Oktoberfest, offering over 60 craft brews, hand-crafted cocktails and a locally sourced menu! The are located in Southington and Plainville, with a third in Berlin on the way. During Oktoberfest they will have a slew of German-inspired dishes such as Potato Pancakes, Schnitzel, Rumkugeln and, of course, their Giant Pretzel with beer cheese! They will once again be joining their friends at Twelve Percent Beer Project for their Oktoberfest weekend September 30th to October 2nd in North Haven. Jealous Monk will be celebrating Oktoberfest this year, kicking it off with a party on Saturday, September 17th at 5pm featuring music from Wicked Peach, along with games and raffles that day. And of course, they will have their famous Oktoberfest menu! Nod Hill in Ridgefield hosts Fest Season in their old world-style Biergarten from September 7th to October 8th. Expect big steins of numerous house-brewed German-style beers, some being poured from traditional gravity casks. Their resident food truck [On the Fly, run by chef Jeff Taibe] will feature German-inspired food specials throughout the month & each Saturday afternoon there will be a live Oktoberfest band. Each Friday evening, Nod Hill will welcome a CT brewery friend with a featured guest draft line and a chance to meet and chat with the brewers. And on Saturday, September 24th, the brewery will host a qualifying round for the CT Steinholding State Championship, with day-of signups open to the public!
