Basso Cafe to Host 5-Course Dinner Featuring Wines of Italy

Join Chef Renato Donzelli of Basso Cafe on May 21st when he hosts a five course dinner with wine pairings featuring wines from Italy. Joining Chef Renato will be Larry Tortorici, who will discuss each of the wines. Many may know Tortorici who conducts the weekly "Saturdays with Larry" tastings at Stew Leonard's.

The first course of the evening will be a Tuna tartare with roasted almonds and currants served with caraway seed tuiles. The tartare will be paired with Ponte Prosecco - DOCG - Valdobbiadene-Conegliano from Veneto. For the second course Chef Renato will prepare Maine Diver Sea Scallop served over roasted tomato Provencal and creamy polenta with pancetta, drizzled with black truffle vinaigrette. Complementing this course will be a Villa Sparina Gavi di Gavi - DOCG Monterotondo, Gavi from the Southern Piedmont region.

The third course will feature a pan seared Mediterranean Bass filet with steamed potatoes, dill infusion with eggplant and walnut pate. Accompanying the bass will be a Tuscan Rocca delle Macie - Vermentino- DOCG. The fourth savory course will include grilled lamb chops with minted pea, Cipollini onions and mushroom gastrique, paired with another Tuscan, the Catello Bamfi - 2010 Brunello di Montalcino.

The dinner will move to dessert with Zeppole and Coffee, served with Badia a Coltibuono 2007 Vin Santo - DOC - Gaiole in Chianti, from Tuscany.

The event is priced at $75 per person plus tax and gratuity. As an added special, the Castello Bamfi Brunello and the Badia a Coltibuono Vin Santo will be discounted 15% if purchased at the dinner. Reservations are suggested
