Crush Wine Bar Launches Fried Chicken & Champagne Thursdays (+Caviar)

Restaurant Features West Hartford Fried Chicken Pop-Up Dinner Opening Wine Bar Champagne Homepage

Noah Schwartz

A “wine bar” is a tricky concept. It sounds simple, but what is it exactly?

A haven for wine geeks, with charcuterie and cheese as an afterthought? A venue for high volumes of cheap wine and overpriced small plates? A regular restaurant with a passion for wine, disguised as a bar?

Luckily, there is nothing tricky about Crush Wine Bar in bustling West Hartford, which opened in November 2024.

While there’s a full menu (more on that below), Crush’s newest offering could not be simpler: Fried Chicken + Champagne. While this concept is not entirely new, it is certainly very on trend.

Crush is currently offering this special menu on Thursdays only. However, due to its overwhelming popularity, they plan to add more days soon (most likely starting with Wednesdays and then potentially Tuesdays, too).

Guide To Mobile Cocktail Bars in Connecticut (2025 Edition)

Features Mobile Bars Food Truck Guide Food Truck Bar Cocktails Wine & Spirits Highlight Homepage

Hannah Goodman

For many of us, it’s hard to keep up with the constant change of fads and trends, but I think all of us can get on board with this one: mobile cocktail bars! While you’ve probably seen a few here and there over the years, Connecticut has really ramped up their traveling bar game and there are plenty to choose from. Plus, most travel throughout the state, so you don’t have to worry about lack of accessibility. They come in all different shapes and sizes, offer various alcoholic beverages (many include NA drinks and food too), and they service any event you might be hosting. From intimate groups to large gatherings, these mobile trucks (and their bartenders) are excited to cater a birthday bash, corporate lunch, fundraiser, or your next (and hopefully last?) wedding. While many crazes come and go, I sure hope this one is here to stay, because who doesn’t like a good boozy party with no need for a DD?

Elm in New Canaan: Phase 2.0 Features Renovations and Remixed Menu

Features Interview Restaurant Elm New Canaan New Canaan Luke Venner Homepage Interview Menu Update

Andrew Dominick

Chefs that have a bustling restaurant never take a full month off. For Luke Venner, “vacation” wasn’t pina coladas in the Caribbean, nor was it one of his fishing or hunting excursions. Instead, he was mostly in New Canaan, at Elm, remixing popular dishes, creating new ones, and reimagining and renovating the entire dining room. Don’t freak out. Your beloved Double-Double was unharmed in the process. But the dining room? Transformed. And it’s something that Venner—who’s in his 10th season as Elm’s executive chef and co-owner—has been meaning to tackle for quite a while. Talk to him about it and you can tell he’s feeling refreshed about all of it.

CT Guide To Cinco De Mayo Events, Bars, Specials & Catering (2025 Edition)

Features Cinco de Mayo Homepage

Hannah Goodman

While Cinco de Mayo does fall on a Monday this year, there are still plenty of restaurants all throughout Connecticut that are offering holiday specials during the week leading up to May 5th and many that are excited to party the day of! I often try to look at the glass half full…full of margarita that is. So let’s all start the week off right by grabbing our friends, throwing on our dancing shoes for the live DJ performances, and proactively calling out of work that Tuesday, because yes, the tequila and beer will be flowing and that’s just a fact. But don’t worry, the tacos, empanadas, dips, and other incredible specials might just be so off the charts that you forget about the drinks and boom! Hangover cured!

Andrew Dominick

Have a conversation with Seleste Tan for just a few minutes and the word that comes to mind is “humble.” Tan’s bakery, Lady Wong Patisserie, with two locations in New York City, speaks about it like she never expected it to be the megahit that it is. “I did it for a hobby during the pandemic and I never thought it would be big,” she says shyly. Her confections, inspired by flavors from her home country of Singapore, and travels throughout Southeast Asia, are her muse. And that hobby? It turned into national coverage in all the big food publications and then some.

Features Interview Restaurant Opening Norwalk Preview Tacos Mexican Homepage Interview

Andrew Dominick

Everything you’ve heard about Adrian Hurtado and his Taco Guy brand opening a new taqueria in Norwalk are true, even if some of the details weren’t originally clear or correct.

Numero tres for Hurtado, if we’re counting the taco truck first, then his Wall Street spot second, is Tacos 203, not Carnitas Michoacán, regardless of what you may have heard. Tacos 203 will be inside of Metro-North’s South Norwalk Station and the concept won’t resemble the fare that Hurtado’s fans have experienced from the truck or his restaurant.

Fast casual fried chicken is a hot craze that’s seemingly not cooling off anytime soon. Haven Hot Chicken, Birdcode Hot Chicken, the new to Connecticut Dave’s Hot Chicken, and smaller spots like Stamford’s Cwispy Chicken are proof of that. But even newer to the coop is Dippin Chicken in East Norwalk where Korean fried chicken is their menu’s centerpiece.

Hartford Yard Goats 2025 Food Lineup: Game On!!

Features Hartford Yard Goats

Leeanne Griffin

The bad news (or good? You tell us): The “Float Your Goat,” featuring a ¼ pound all-beef dog with peppers, onions, bacon and brown mustard submerged in a glass of goat milk, was a long-game April Fool by the Hartford Yard Goats’ front office. The stunt dog, posted to the minor league team’s social media accounts on March 27, captured national media attention and more than a few disgusted reactions.

The Yard Goats management confirmed the prank as the team unveiled the real menu debuts for the 2025 season on April 2, two days ahead of Dunkin’ Park’s opening day Friday.

“We’re not going to be dipping hot dogs with peppers and onions into goat milk,” sponsorship sales manager Conor Geary said, acknowledging the “fun little hoax.”

But, he noted, “every year, as you know, and as our fans know, we work very hard to make things bigger, better, more fun, tastier, more extreme and more crazy.”
