On the heels of a slick renovation at their Rye, NY location, The Granola Bar founders, Julie Mountain and Dana Noorily are at it again. This time, however, their focus is in Westport. No, not at their flagship of TGB, but in the Compo Beach area at Old Mill Grocery & Deli.
Old Mill, though, is a very different venture for this dynamic duo. But before Mountain and Noorily could put their magic touch on this neighborhood gem, a lot had to happen.
First, the building that was built in 1919—which had been many iterations of Old Mill and a few Elvira’s in an over 100 year span—needed to be saved after the owners up to last year, Betsy and Hal Kravitz, moved out of Westport, putting a longtime neighborhood favorite at risk of being purchased and demolished for what likely would have been another beach area home.

But you aren’t in the mood for the classic hot dog or chicken tenders that are usually served at a beach. You want something a little more gourmet, like a lobster roll or a farm-fresh salad. Well, now there is a ghost kitchen in Westport, CT where such dreams can become a reality…and they did last weekend. Introducing Grammie’s. For those not familiar with the concept of a ghost kitchen, it just means there is no actual restaurant—not in the traditional sense. You can't come and cozy up to a table, but you can order Grammie's donuts, cronuts, flakey biscuits, croissants and breakfast sandwiches (made on ANY of the above freshly baked carbs) for curbside pickup and delivery through their website. Yup. Lay in bed and hit send…Voila!
You loved the taste of seaside classics at Joey’s by the Shore and fan-favorite dishes featured at Elvira’s. Now, as of May 3, you can enjoy these two iconic spots all at once, as they combine to form “Joey’s by the Shore featuring Elvira Mae’s Coffee Bar.”
How did Westport get so lucky as to have these beloved beach eateries merge into one delicious location? When Joey’s by the Shore faced closure last year, owner Joey Romeo and Betsy Kravitz of Elvira Mae’s discussed the potential of revamping this locally adored destination. From there, things took off. Today, under this 50/50 partnership, they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and feature an ice cream window and a full coffee bar.
