You loved the taste of seaside classics at Joey’s by the Shore and fan-favorite dishes featured at Elvira’s. Now, as of May 3, you can enjoy these two iconic spots all at once, as they combine to form “Joey’s by the Shore featuring Elvira Mae’s Coffee Bar.”

How did Westport get so lucky as to have these beloved beach eateries merge into one delicious location? When Joey’s by the Shore faced closure last year, owner Joey Romeo and Betsy Kravitz of Elvira Mae’s discussed the potential of revamping this locally adored destination. From there, things took off. Today, under this 50/50 partnership, they serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and feature an ice cream window and a full coffee bar.

“I'm super excited about the new partnership with Joey,” Kravitz said. “The fact that he has over 30 years of experience and people know him and his reputation will be a really exciting thing for the neighborhood.”

“Joey’s by the Shore featuring Elvira Mae’s Coffee Bar”, Kravitz admits, is a bit of a mouthful. Nonetheless, she and Joey wanted locals to know that their joint restaurant offers the favorites they had become renowned for individually.

“Our menu will be a solid combination of everything from Joey’s and Elvira’s,” Kravitz said.

With Joey’s esteemed lobster rolls, fries, burgers and hotdogs, along with healthy options like avocado toast, deli meats, and salads, there’s no doubt that this place has something for everyone. Plus, with their full coffee bar, Kravitz says that anything you could want from Starbucks, they have.

After pushing back its opening date an entire month, Joey’s featuring Elvira Mae’s has, metaphorically, opened its doors to the public. In accordance with government policy amidst this pandemic, they are open for curbside pick up with a limited menu. Customers can conveniently order online and pick up their food at the restaurant’s location on Hillspoint Road.

For those who are still a bit apprehensive about taking out, Kravitz detailed the numerous precautions that she, Joey, and their team have taken to ensure the safety of their customers. Inside the store, all employees wear masks and gloves. Outside, decals mark the sidewalks to help maintain the proper distance of 6 feet. They also enforced cashless transactions, eliminating an unnecessary step of person-to-person contact.

With foot traffic near the beach remaining high during quarantine, Joey’s featuring Elvira Mae’s remains the only spot for miles that offers a bite to eat. With that in mind, Kravitz and Romeo hope to be a space full of friendly faces for beach-goers to count on.

“We want to keep a positive, fun and uplifting fun atmosphere to keep this neighborhood happy,” Kravitz said.

In addition to their diverse traditional food options, Romeo and Kravitz intend on selling more beach-friendly items, including sunset picnic baskets, fresh flowers, and specialty grocery items. And, unlike their past locations, customers can look forward to Joey’s featuring Elvira Mae’s staying open for business all year long.

So, as the weather finally begins to reflect the beginnings of summer, alleviate your quarantine gloom with something tasty at a spot that will surely become a Westport classic.

“We’re open, we’re being safe and we're here for the community,” Kravitz said. In times like this, these are certainly some positive words that we needed to hear.
