Recap: Sun Tequila Tasting at Mohegan Sun

Live music, tasty food, and a healthy dose of tequila were front and center at the Sun Tequila Tasting, which returned on July 23rd in the Earth Ballroom at Mohegan Sun. The jam-packed event brought together dozens of vendors and plenty of guests ready to “Call the Shots” amongst a sea of artificial palm trees.

Not that the palm trees were all that necessary to evoke a sense of a warmer, tequila-appropriate climate: in the midst of a week-long sorcher of a heat wave where temperatures hovered in the low to mid 90’s for most of the event, Sun Tequila Tasting packed the heat in more ways than one!

A ticket to Sun Tequila Tasting included unlimited food, unlimited tequila samples from any of the booths (of which there were well over 30), and live entertainment. Snack-sized offerings were provided courtesy of Taco Pacifico and featured a menu of veggie, chicken, and beef tacos, cheese quesadillas, and chips with salsa: exactly what the party needed in between rounds of tequila (because what pairs better with tequila than fresh chips and salsa?). While the tequila was clearly the star of the event, all of the food offerings were delicious and added a nice touch to the evening.

Speaking of tequila, there was something for just about everyone (that is, if tequila is your particular brand of “something”) as you made your way across the dozens of tequila vendors. Guests could sample a variety of gold and silver tequila as well as mezcal in appropriately-sized tasting glasses. The event offered the perfect opportunity for guests to sample brands or varieties they haven’t tried before, or in some cases, perhaps never even heard of before. Familiar long-standing brands like Patrón and Don Julio were in good supply, but newer labels like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Teremana were also present. If you’re less into straight alcohol and prefer some sort of mixer added in, there were plenty of margarita samples as well throughout the booths. This included cocktails from Fruitful Mixology, a booth that had one of the longer lines of patrons throughout the event.

OK, now we have to talk about that blender bike. This one-of-a-kind mode of “transportation” enabled guests to pedal their way to their very own frozen margarita. That’s right: the pedaling powers up the blender and mixes up a “Patrón-sponsored Happy Hour.” If frozen margaritas are your cup of tea, then hopefully you packed your pedaling shoes! Otherwise, there were plenty of mixed beverage samples prepared by expert tequila connoisseurs. As one might imagine, the blender bike became quite a popular pitstop for event-goers.

All of the evening’s festivities were set to the beat of The Fake Experience, a lively band covering an array of hit songs as guests danced the night away. They kept the party going for the full three hours of the event, and by the end of the night, the dance floor was buzzing with energy.

Mohegan Sun is no stranger to throwing a good party, and the Sun Tequila Tasting was a perfect example of that notariety. With beverages pouring all night long, this event never fell short and continuously hit the mark! From the event staff to the vendors to the guests themselves, everyone in attendance was having a great time. And with such a well-attended event, we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw the Sun Tequila Tasting return yet again.

The Sun Tequila Tasting took place on July 23 from 7PM-10PM in the Earth Ballroom at Mohegan Sun. Tickets were $70 in advance and $75 day-of, and included unlimited food, beverages, and live entertainment. The event was sponsored by Fruitful Mixology, Patrón, and Taco Pacifico. Only guests ages 21 and above were permitted.
