Pier 131: Dine and Drink on the River in Shelton this Summer

CTbites Team

Pier 131 Restaurant and Bar is poised to be one of CT’s “it” destinations this summer.  Nestled along the newly renovated Shelton Riverfront with stunning views of the Housatonic River and the historic Old Shelton Railroad Bridge, Pier131 is located in one of the most stunning spots in Fairfield County.

Although very much a neighborhood restaurant, this high-energy gathering place and urban retreat opened its doors late last summer and quickly became a popular destination drawing diners and photographers from all over Fairfield and New Haven Counties – even on the coldest winter days.

The setting immediately draws you in and the tasty something for everyone menu will keep you coming back. Pier 131 has also done a great job giving diners an entertaining experience with live music several nights a week, a DJ every Sunday afternoon, as well as Trivia Night, a daily Happy Hour, $5 Margarita Tuesday, Pasta Sunday (with half off select bottles of wine). More events will be added to the line-up as the weather starts to warm.

Located in a new 4300 square foot building, the main dining area seats 100, is spacious yet cozy with its rustic rough hewn wood covered walls that are juxtaposed by elegant deep red leather covered banquettes. Gas fireplaces line the far wall giving each seating area a warm and inviting tone. The restaurant’s open dining and bar areas are well suited for corporate meetings and milestone celebrations.

The sizable outdoor patio has expansive views of the Housatonic and accommodates 150 people.  For those preferring the comfort of the indoors, the large airy bar seats 54 and also has stunning views. The setting is never the same and changes with each season, sunset, rainstorm and snowfall. (Shall we mention that diners get front row seats to the fireworks on New Year’s Eve and on the Fourth of July?) Sports fans will be able cheer on their favorite teams from one of the eight oversized televisions in the bar.

The menu changes seasonally with items that might best be described as upscale pub-fare. Fan favorites include the Nashville Hot Chicken and SmashBurger. Creative starters range from the Butter Crab Roll with sticky rice, Siracha aioli and clarified butter to General Tso’s Broccoli served over sticky rice is all of the pleasure with none of the guilt! Other favorites include Grilled Lamb Chops, Oven Roasted Wings, Steak Frites, Spicy Baby Bok Choy and Maple Honey Brussel Sprouts. Those who enjoy Bone Marrow must order theirs, as it’s truly exceptional.

One must come to discover their Brunch Bottles which are available in 6 different varieties: Mimosa, Bellini, Mango Mimosa, Pineapple Mimosa, Strawberry Bellini, Champagne and Rosé.

Individual Pizzas, Fig, Margarita, Hot Oil and Buffalo are great to share or enjoy on one’s own, and sure to satisfy all pizza lovers.

Mussels in a Pot is another fan favorite and comes in 5 varieties – White, made with white wine, garlic, butter and cream. Red, is tomato-based with capers, basil and cherry peppers. Thai Style, has a base of coconut cream, curry, lime, ginger and lemongrass. New Orleans, has a chipotle base, with Cajun-roasted trinity corn.
