Just a mere mile and change from the Delamar Southport and Artisan, founder Charles Mallory’s Greenwich Hospitality Group has opened a new luxury hotel with a restaurant, Dandelion, that’s been booked solid for weeks right out of the gate. “We took ownership of it 2-3 years ago,” says Delamar’s corporate director of restaurants, Hicham Amaaou. “I’ve been working with Frederic Keifer (Delamar’s corporate chef/partner) since Artisan Southport in 2012, then West Hartford, and we created La Plage together from scratch. But this is two separate entities and the food is very opposite.”

Features CT Pizza Trail

CTbites Team

After drawing more than 13,000 votes and months of anticipation, the State of Connecticut officially unveiled the Connecticut Pizza Trail — the first-ever statewide trail celebrating the pizzerias, makers, and partners that earned the state its title as the Pizza Capital of the U.S.

The launch event took place at Modern Apizza in New Haven, the number one vote-getter in the statewide survey that determined the trail’s Top 100 pizzerias.

“Pizza is one of America’s most beloved foods, and nowhere does it better than Connecticut,” said Anthony Anthony, Chief Marketing Officer for the State of Connecticut. “For more than a century, our apizza has been a source of pride, community, and economic strength. The Connecticut Pizza Trail brings that story to life – and this new experience for residents and visitors alike shines a global spotlight on the people and places that make this state the undisputed Pizza Capital of the U.S.”

Cosetta Pizzeria and Paninoteca Opens in Fairfield from Bailey's Backyard Team

Andrew Dominick

In 2024, when I interviewed Sal Bagliavio, the co-owner of Bailey’s Backyard, about his second spot, Taco Dia in Newtown, he very cryptically mentioned that he and chef/co-owner Forrest Pasternack were actively looking to open something else, somewhere else to follow up their taqueria.

Cosetta Pizzeria and Paninoteca on the Post Road in Fairfield is that something else—and what it is, simply put, is a more gourmet version of the neighborhood slice shop, plus sandwiches (including breakfast), house-made pastry, and coffee.

Hidden Gem Alert! Istanbul-Style Turkish Bourekas at Crunch in Woodbridge

Features Woodbridge Dessert Middle Eastern Bakery Opening

Kendall Arkay

There’s Mozart, Stevie Wonder, Picasso — legendary prodigies who started young and made their mark early. And while Liam Shemi may not be composing symphonies, what he’s doing in the kitchen deserves some attention. At just 22, the chef and owner of Crunch in Woodbridge, Connecticut, is already turning heads with homemade artisanal boreks that are as ambitious as they are delicious.

Boreks are his specialty. Turkish bourekas, or Turkish borek- these traditional Mediterranean pastries are made with homemade filo dough that ferments in-house for two days. Then it’s stretched by hand until it’s paper-thin and filled with all kinds of flavor. At Crunch, they’re available in savory, sweet, and everything in between. Spinach, jalapeno, cheese, Dubai chocolate… but we’ll get to that in a bit.

The space at 90 Post Road E in Westport has played host to three different restaurant concepts over the past eight years; Jesup Hall (farm-to-table American), then Don Memo (Mexican), and now, Massi Co., a Napolitano style restaurant. At the helm is a familiar face, co-owner of those previous two restaurants, and The Whelk, Massimo Tullio. The switch to Italian came about earlier in the year when Tullio, and his then partner, Bill Taibe, announced they would be going their separate ways with Taibe taking over both Kawa Ni locations in Westport and in Denver, while Tullio would continue operating The Whelk and Don Memo.

10+ CT Spots To Celebrate Negroni Week September 22-28

Features Cocktails Negroni Week

Hannah Goodman

One of the first cocktails I ever learned to make was the Negroni, as it is my mom’s favorite adult beverage and deep down, we just wanna make our mamas proud. Naturally, it has also become a favorite drink of mine, so let’s talk about it! Ah, the Negroni. Equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Stir these ingredients together gently in a rocks glass (or red Solo cup if you must) with a large ice cube and garnish it with an orange peel and there you have it folks: the classic Negroni. Of course, we all have different takes on said drink and as Negroni Week approaches, let us celebrate the crisp temps and crispy leaves (and apple crisps) that fall has to offer. Plus, Negroni Week helps raise money for the Slow Food movement, a global initiative that aims to create “a world in which all people can access and enjoy foods and beverages that are good for them, good for the people who produce them, and good for the planet” (Negroni Week). Head to any of these incredible restaurants and bars to celebrate the Negroni and help out a great cause! Cheers.

Something that Lazlo reflected back on wasn’t his storied culinary career at places like Gramercy Tavern, The Whelk, or Mill Street Bar & Table, it was smoking meats and listening to music. “It was about what brings me back to what my groove was,” he says. “Twenty years ago, I had this little smoker. I’d invite my friends over, crank up the Grateful Dead, have a couple beers, and have a good time.”

Guide To CT's Fall/Winter Cooking Classes For Adults & Kids (2025)

Features Cooking Classes Kids Cooking Classes Education Guide Homepage

Hannah Goodman

With summer coming to a close, it may be hard to look forward to, well, just about anything. While seasons will come and go, we stand strong in guaranteeing fun ways for members of our Connecticut community to ease in and out of every season. Soon, random pumpkins and squash will be showing up everywhere – on porch steps, in “fun” seasonal lattes, and on restaurant menus. Though we may not have complete control over the fads and trends that are destined to rule our fall and winter and the holidays that come with said seasons, we do have the ability as sentient beings to choose how to spend these imminent days. Below you’ll find many local businesses and restaurants that are offering cooking and baking classes for adults and children, all of which will further your culinary education. They’ll allow you to hone the skills you dare whip out on Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, or Christmas…the techniques you swear you have, whether it's to impress your in-laws or hold over your kids heads all year as a form of weaponized guilt (another skill parents have). Whatever the case may be, allow this list to fuel those fires within and get to accomplishing what is truly important: eating good food with good people.

Tacos 203 by Taco Guy Opens at South Norwalk Train Station

Features Interview Restaurant Tacos Norwalk Tacos 203 Cocktails Grab-n-Go Mexican Homepage Fast Casual Opening

Andrew Dominick

As summer dwindles down in Connecticut, lobster rolls are out, tacos are in. At least that’s the case at the South Norwalk’s Metro-North station’s eastbound side. When the vacant space where LobsterCraft once slung rolls, lobster mac, and bisque, is now home to Tacos 203, a spinoff of Taco Guy. Owner Adrian Hurtado, who started his Taco Guy brand, first as a successful food truck, then a brick-and-mortar in Norwalk’s Wall Street area in 2023, snagged the train station spot by putting in an application bid for it with the Norwalk Parking Authority, not knowing whether he’d get it or not.
