Last Call for Carnitas: Super Taqueria Las Salsas in Bridgeport Closing On October 19

After well over a decade serving traditional carnitas and Mexican street food on Bridgeport’s State Street, owner and lifelong taquero, Gil Salvador Perez Hurtado, is shutting down shop at his beloved Super Taqueria Las Salsas.

October 19, 2025 will be the final service day for the legendary taqueria which, if you read our story in 2024, began first as a low-key pop up out of Hurtado’s apartment, then became one of the state’s more popular food trucks, before he moved it to a brick-and-mortar location.

Hurtado’s son, Adrian, who owns Taco Guy and Tacos 203, both in Norwalk, says his father wants to see customers and friends, from the past and present, if they wish to stop by for one more taco or one more carnitas plate.

“He’s so grateful to the people who have supported him for the past 20 plus years and wants to say goodbye to everyone that he got to meet and anyone that he became friends with,” Adrian says.  “He’d like to show a really good vibe to the Connecticut community because the community has given him pretty much everything he has; to grow his family, and has helped his family open restaurants of their own. He’s been in the business for a really long time. Places like his and Tony’s (Pham) place Pho Vietnam in Danbury, they’re pioneers of that family-owned small business. They love what they do and they do it not to get rich, but to support their families.”

As for Gil, he’s simply retiring, albeit an emotional retirement.

“I would love people to enjoy my food for these last few weeks,” he says.  “I’m emotional and it’s a little sad. I came here when I was a teenager and spent most of my years in Connecticut. It’s bittersweet to call it a day and go home. I’m retiring. I’m sad to be leaving, but I’m happy and thankful that I got to make a living in Connecticut.”

Gil’s schedule these final few weeks through October 19 are Thursdays and Fridays (October 9-10 and October 16-17) from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays (October 11-12 and October 18-19) from noon – 9 p.m.

While Adrian hints that his dad will “probably open something small when he goes back to Mexico, because he’ll never fully retire,” Gil says, “it’s time to go back home to live a more relaxed life, go to the beach, and spend more time with my wife, all the things I didn’t get a chance to do before.”
