Hungry Pot Korean BBQ & Hot Pot Opens Location in Westport

Those looking to warm up courtesy of a bread bowl of broccoli cheddar soup at 1860 Post Road E in Westport will have to look elsewhere for their Panera fix as the space is now occupied by Hungry Pot, a Korean BBQ and hot pot restaurant.

The Westport location of Hungry Pot—which had their grand opening on February 8—is the fifth one of its kind. There are currently four in Connecticut (Danbury, Wethersfield, Manchester, and now Westport) and one in Dartmouth, Massachusetts with a sixth restaurant opening soon in Natick, MA.

At Hungry Pot Westport, and all of their other spots, the concept is simple: choose which experience you would like, Korean style grill-it-yourself BBQ, or hot pot, where a simmering pot of flavorful broth sits on a burner beside each guest, and you submerge everything from seafood, beef, chicken, pork, and vegetables into the stock before you chow down.

It’s pretty straightforward, but it’s important to note a few rules (if you’ve never done this before), days and times, and lunch or dinner.

If there’s a MUST, it’s the spicy bulgogi beef.

Monday through Friday lunch ($19.99/person, children 4-10 years old cost $9.99) goes from noon to 4 p.m. Weekday dinner runs from 4 p.m. to 10:30 ($32.99, children $13.99). And on Saturdays and Sundays it’s all-day dinner with the same weekday dinner prices.

The guidelines are simple: all guests must participate in the same experience, so if you have a table of four, two people can’t do hot pot while the others partake in barbecuing. Should you all want to enjoy both experiences at once, you can absolutely do that for the regular lunch or dinner price plus $5 per person. For lunch, some items are not available as they are dinner only. And no! You cannot stay there and shovel down steak for five hours. There’s a two-hour, all you can eat time limit.

Ordering is super easy, as almost all of it is done via a tablet that’s on your table unless you need a drink refill, utensils, or extra plates, but the waitstaff is attentive.

Cool? Cool.

As of a random visit with friends on February 19, the Westport location’s liquor license was still pending, but as of press time Hungry Pot will have their bar up and running to serve colorful, fruity, boozy cocktails, wine, beer, and soju as an accompaniment to all the meat, seafood, and broth you’re about to take down.
