Nibble: Tasty CT Food Events for July 8th – 14th

After taking a small summer break, Ordinary in New Haven is open once more. Join them Monday July 8.

Guilford Mooring hosts a Lobster Bake on Tuesday July 9. Feast on a meal of 1 ¼ Lobster, shrimp, mussels, steamers, sweet sausage, corn on the cob, Red Bliss Potatoes, and NY Cheesecake. (There are also options for land lovers and children!) It starts at 5pm and costs $55 per person. 

On Thursday, July 11, Mystic Aquarium’s Conservation in Action series presents an evening of culinary education and exploration with Eating with the Ecosystem. Mystic Aquarium’s Main Gallery is the perfect backdrop for a night of cocktails and local sustainable seafood. Admission includes a delectable presentation, sustainable and adventurous seafood appetizers from the cookbook Simmering the Sea: Diversifying Cookery to Sustain Our Fisheries, plus one complimentary cocktail, wine or beer of your choice.  $28 per person or $50 for two online in advance. 

Carbone’s Kitchen (Bloomfield) and Carbone’s Prime (Rocky Hill) have launched “Summer Maine Lobster Nights.” Offered every Monday-Wednesday in July and August, the menu includes your choice of Shrimp Bisque or Garden Salad, a 1 1/4 lb. Steamed Maine Lobster with Roasted Potatoes and Native Corn on the Cob, and Summer Berry Shortcake. This taste of summer is being offered at $32 per person, beverage, tax and gratuity not included.

Located in the heart of New Haven, House of Naan, a modern Indian kitchen featuring fresh takes on traditional Indian fare and inventive cocktails, is excited to announce its inaugural “Helping Others Now” (H.O.N.) Charitable Giving Campaign. Each week in July starting on Sunday, the restaurant is donating 25 percent of all proceeds from food and bar sales to four different charitable organizations in the Greater New Haven community.

On July 12, join Max Restaurant Group for “Maize: Corn & Tapas” at Rosedale Farms & Vineyards. Chef Hunter Morton Culinary translates the summer’s most beloved harvest into a feast inspired by the tastes of Spain. Enjoy hors doeuvres, small plates, wine, beer, and live music. 

Enjoy afternoon tea at Bar Pina in Hartford on Saturday July 13. Feast on tea and snacks, or upgrade to also receive a glass of champagne or a mimosa. 

On Saturday July 13, OEC Brewing presents “Beyond Hot Sake.” OEC is more than just beer! Join them for an introduction to the world of sake. Over the course of an hour, learn about a brief history of sake, its production processes, and styles. Sample five different sakes from the Kiuchi Brewery. 

DORO Restaurant Group’s Hadley + Occum, Bastille Day 2019 Farm Festival takes place on Saturday July 13.  Dine on farm fresh ingredients with Sub Edge Farm in Farmington as a backdrop. Chef Dorjan Puka and Chef Scott Miller will oversee the evening. 

A new local food and home luxury event will provide attendees an exclusive opportunity to enjoy fabulous outdoor living spaces and the best summer fare and specialty cocktails. Pools, Patios, Pergolas, a Luxury Tasting Event, benefiting Food Rescue US and being held on Saturday, July 13 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., is a fun evening featuring the finest of summer entertaining with signature cuisine and cocktails from Fairfield County’s top caterers: AMG Catering, Festivities, and Marcia Selden Catering in beautiful backyard settings.  Guests will be divided into rotating groups as they visit a selection of distinct Westport properties showcasing their exquisite pools, patios or pergolas. 

The Maritime Aquarium Lighthouse Cruise takes place on Saturday July 13 at 10 a.m. The 5 ½ hour cruise will get participants close to six beacons in central Long Island Sound: Peck Ledge, Greens Ledge and Sheffield Island lighthouses in Norwalk; Penfield Reef Lighthouse in Fairfield; Black Rock Harbor Light in Bridgeport; and Stratford Shoal Light. It starts at 10 a.m. 

On July 13, the Shop Rite Plaza in Bridgeport hosts a Family Fun Event with 20+ Food Trucks. There will also be a bounce house, face painting, and more. Entry is free with food and activities for purchase in the festival. 

Next Door in New Haven invites you to a Pizza Making Class. On Sunday July 14, Doug Coffin, founder of The Big Green Pizza Truck, will guide you through a two-hour class. It runs from 12 – 2 p.m. and costs $50 per person. 

On Sunday July 14, Byrd's Books brings Dr. Harry and Eric Ofgang to Taproot Restaurant for an evening of delicious, healthy eating and a double author talk. Their book, The Good Vices: From Beer to Sex, the Surprising Truth about What's Actually Good for You will be discussed in this unique author talk. Each ticket for the event will include a copy of the book and a selection of heavy apps from Taproot Restaurant. Purchase drinks from a cash bar.
