Nibble: CT Food Events for June 17-24

On Monday June 18, The Weekend Kitchen in Essex hosts Chef Colt Taylor of The Essex Restaurant for “The Ultimate Fish Class.”  The menu will include dishes like Ora king salmon belly gravlax, Tuna tartare, Kampachi ceviche, and Ora king salmon loin bulged wheat risotto.  Don’t forget to BYOB!  The class costs $90 and runs from 6:30-10pm.   

Fairfield Cheese Company presents Charcuterie 101 on Tuesday June 19.  In the class, taste through some of their meat offerings and discuss the growing popularity of the very old world process.  It is $50 and lasts from 7-9pm.   

Pizza In The Park: Presented By Half Full Brewery will take place on Thursday June 21 at Mill River Park & Greenway in Stamford.  It will feature a true "garden" themed Pop Up Beer Garden, Pizza Vendors from CT and beyond, 3+ hours of live music, Lawn Games, and a Pizza Making Competition.

Jamaican American connection & New Haven Caribbean Festival present the 1st Caribbean Restaurant Week June 17-23rd. Restaurants are featuring $10 Take Out and include: Island Spice, Tropical Delights, Patty's Caribbean Cuisine, Ninth Square Caribbean, JA Bar & Grill and Around the Clock Restaurant. 

Ordinary New Haven is adding an extra hour to their happy hour!  Early Bird specials, offered from 4- 5pm, include $6 Cocktail Specials, $6 Half-Yards of Beer, and a $15 Wine Bottle List.

The Essex Restaurant will offer even more culinary fun on Wednesday June 20 when they welcome Litchfield Distillery to present a Bangkok Bonanza Thai inspired cocktail pairing dinner.

On Wednesday June 20 from 5:30-7:30pm, PizzaCo Stratford and Wag Central Stratford Present “Yappy Hour,” a pooch-friendly happy hour on the patio with pizza, salad, apps, wings, drink specials — and FREE water bowl table service for pups!  Enjoy a special “Pupperoni Pizza” with some of the proceeds going to RSAR, whose nationally-certified canines assist agencies responsible for searches of lost and missing persons. 

“Maritime with a Twist” is an adults-only evening event on Thursday June 21 at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.  Open to anyone age 21 and over, “Maritime with a Twist” features tastes from nearby restaurants in the South Norwalk (or SoNo) neighborhood, as well as refreshments by artisanal distillers and distributors. Sample them all while enjoying the entire Aquarium for one price.  Participating restaurants include The Blind Rhino, The Cask Republic, Harlan Publick, Killer B Burger, Knot Norm’s, and more.   

The Westport Farmers’ Market will now have a “Chef-at-the-Market Competition!”  On the third Thursday of every month through September, three chefs from local restaurants compete. Each gets $20 and 45 minutes to shop from vendors at the market and create an appetizer-sized dish.  Volunteer judges, selected at random from shoppers that day, will select one winner who will move on to the semi-final round the third Thursday, September 20th. The top two chefs from the semi-final round will move on to a final competition in October at the WFM’s biggest event of the year, “Fork it Over.”

Kids eat free on Mondays at the Tiger’s Den in Ridgefield.  

On Thursday June 21, participate in “Hadley + Occum, A Farm Dinner By The Chefs from Zohara Mediterranean Kitchen.”  Sub Edge Farm will serve as the backdrop for a farm-to-table dinner prepared by Connecticut chefs and overseen by Chef Dorjan Puka and Chef Scott Miller.  Tickets are $99 and te event runs from 7-10pm.   

Seafood Thursdays are back at SBC!  Visit them every Thursday through August for new menus with seafood-inspired specials.

Restaurant Porrón by Chef Tyler Anderson is now open and serving lunch!  Patrons are able to order spanish-style salads (ensaladas), sandwiches (bocadillos) and soups (sopas), or a combo package can be created. The casual fare can be ordered at the Porrón bar and enjoyed in the restaurant or taken to-go when the food is hot and ready.   Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 11 AM -2 PM. 

Chef Dylan of Barcelona New Haven has returned from his trip to Spain and he’s showcasing his travels with a Porron Pig Roast on Sunday June 24.  Dine on a full suckling pig, passed tapas, sides, and sauces and watch him demonstrate the art of carving a pig nose to tail.  There will be porron pairings too!   

Charter Oak Brewing Company has a new tasting room in Danbury.  They offer 10 rotating draft beer lines and tours of their new facility.  Join them Thursday 4-8pm, Friday 3-8pm, Saturday 12-8pm, and Sunday 12-5pm.

The Greater Hartford Food Truck Fest takes place Saturday June 23 & Sunday June 24.  Hosted by Food Truck Festivals In New England, the weekend will feature food trucks from all over CT, live bands, a great DJ, and FREE children's activities.  It will take place at The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor.
