Is grilled Mahi Mahi on the menu tonight? Not sure which wine or beer would best complement the fish? Bottlerocket Wine & Spirit is now open in Westport at 1790 Post Road East offering a seamless, cleverly organized wine shopping experience. With its roots in downtown Manhattan, Bottlerocket hopes to offer wine fans in Fairfield County a better understanding of wine, beer and spirits. Plus, they've got street cred. Bottlerocket has been named the #2 wine store in New York City by Zagat: "An 'innovator' among vintners...an 'A+ in creativity' for the 'eye-catching' themed displays..."
How did they achieve this? Bottlerocket displays wine on islands organized by themes, such as foods, take-out, pizza, organic and ‘gifts.’ You can still peruse many wines in the traditional alphabetical order by country along one wall, with a carefully edited selection of beer, spirits, liqueurs and accessories on the facing wall. In the center of the 4,000 square-foot space, you'll find a selection of bitters for the cocktail obsessives. Customers will find helpful information on various wine/food pairings including seafood, meat, poultry, treats and take-out as well as a wide range of price points and country origins. These Bottlerocket-authored tasting notes are also slipped into your bag when you check-out.
“Westport has a direct thread that connects its residents to New York City with a commutable distance, similar interests and wine tastes,” said Tom Geniesse, Bottlerocket’s enthusiastic founder. “The great location of our Westport store provides easy access and an opportunity for southwestern Connecticut residents to experience fantastic wines along with fun in-store tastings, classes, onsite and offsite events in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The selection at Bottlerocket will appeal to collectors and novice wine lovers alike,” added Geniesse.
Bottlerocket incorporates environmentally friendly "green" materials into its design, provides free delivery, offers wine and cookbooks, a children's play area, and numerous educational opportunities for customers. They will be offering classes soon, so stay tuned to their website or Facebook page for more information.
