Can’t we agree that everything's better when meatballs are cooking on the stove then miraculously in our bellies?

Well, we know two people who can attest to this, assolutamente (absolutely): writer Anna Francese Gass (Food52) and Fortina’s beloved papa and chef extraordinaire Christian Petroni. Fortina Stamford will host a book signing and tasting TONIGHT for Gass’ newly released, stunner of a book Heirloom Kitchen: Heritage Recipes and Family Stories From the Tables of Immigrant Women. And, it all started Once Upon A Meatball, the delicious introductory story Gass shares from her childhood.

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind for the author/chef and New Canaan resident whose new book is a gorgeous example of what great food and community can do; it can honor and inspire. She has done just that in an homage which highlights 45 immigrant women from across the country, including six living here in Connecticut, and their special connection to their native culture. Heirloom Kitchen shares 100 recipes  beginning from Gass’ native Italy, several in Europe, Africa, Asia, Central & South America and the Middle East.

When I asked her about the buzz, she notes, “I love how Connecticut businesses, bookstores and libraries are rallying behind the book; it really is special and I hope people just love it like I do.”

As a matter of fact, Gass has received numerous calls, a local newspaper feature, and has taped an episode of  “The Kitchen” on the Food Network,  which air on Saturday, May 11 in time for Mother's Day.

Speaking of Mother’s Day...I better order a copy for Mom, right now.

See details below to attend the event, taste some wonderful selections from the book, and of course, get a signed copy!
