Beach + Barn Opens in Branford

From the same folks that brought us Roomba and Tacuba, comes the shoreline's newest restaurant, Beach + Barn. The dynamic husband and wife team of Chef Arturo and Suzette Franco-Camacho have reimagined their space in Branford, re-opening their Main Street restaurant as a casual "country to coast" lunch and dinner retreat.

Their approach is "to create an everyday, neighborhood spot with great tasting, affordable food." After several years of running successful restaurants in New Haven, the couple moved to Branford. Beach + Barn is their thoughtful response to living and working within the Branford community for the past several years, and a distillation of what they believe was missing in the restaurant scene in the shoreline, and especially Branford.

"We had to take a step back and ask ourselves where we would go a few times a week. We came up with awesome, affordable food with lots of variety, great drinks, a reasonable wine list, and cozy atmosphere," said the Franco-Camachos. An early glimpse at the menu, broken up into soups/salads, sandwiches, entrees, and simply grilled (gluten-free) showcases their own unique take on classic dishes. This "best-of" list from Arturo's years in the business are glimpsed in the BBQ duck nachos, a three taco platter, and a ginger crusted salmon. In general the price point seems lower and the food, more casual and closer reflection of the shoreline.

The restaurant’s design focuses on a comfortable atmosphere accented by vintage finds, a combination of reclaimed barn with a touch of the Connecticut shoreline, or what Suzette calls "the best of country and coast." An oversized farm house table sits in the middle of the larger dining room space with cozy plaid blankets surrounded by reclaimed wood and touches of corrugated metal. An oversized ship canvas is the focus of the room, with vintage farm windows dividing the main dining space with a smaller dining area.
