Room 112 Opens in Sono: A Modern Day Speakeasy in Connecticut

Jessica Ryan

Room 112 is shaking up the pulse of the lively SoNo restaurant scene. A modern-day speakeasy with a rock’n’roll edge, and eclectic, modish décor recently opened its doors at 112 Washington Street.  Owner Isaac Patrick Camoro’s vision was clear the minute he walked into the then empty space.

Room 112 conjures up images of an urban garage meets underground lounge. Eclectic and unconventional this new bar is a truly unique experience; the antidote to the typical Fairfield County bar scene. The main level, framed in exposed brick, offers the perfect canvas for local artists to showcase their talent, thus lending themselves perfectly to the bar’s eclectic furnishings and lighting. Downstairs, a “man-cave” style game room includes a pool table, dartboards, shuffleboard, a jukebox, several HD TVs and a sleek bar.

The culmination of over twenty years in the bar business in the New York and Connecticut area has resulted in the area’s newest bar which paints a picture of a sophisticated cocktail culture that has progressed. Camoro’s talent extends far beyond that of bartender. A true visionary, his creativity brings the craft of the cocktail to a whole new level with creative and unique infusions, tinctures and combinations. To sip one of his cocktails is to taste art in liquid form.

Camoro’s flare for the dramatic as it pertains to the cocktail is backed up by his keen sense for balancing flavors and punctuating the best qualities of a spirit, liqueur, herb or mixer. Illustrations of such innovative cocktails include; the Simone, comprised of Belvedere Vodka, Black Hennessy Cognac, Combier Liqueur, vanilla paste, balsamic pomegranate, fresh lime juice, layered with red wine and cava, and garnished with a flambé orange zest and served up; the Pinacita is made with Absolute Elyx Vodka, Koval Chrysanthemum & Honey Liqueur, St Elder Liqueur, lime juice, fresh serrano peppers, grilled pineapple, pink peppercorns, topped with a Campari foam served in a 24K rose gold pineapple; and the Old Tom Fashion consists of Ransom Cast Gin, Antica Sweet Vermouth, muddled tangerines, cherry and sugar, a dash of Angostura Bitters, and is garnished with an orange slice and a brandy cherry.

Always ahead of the curve, Carmoro may be best known for creating intriguing beverage programs for some of Fairfield County’s most progressive restaurants including cb5 Hospitality Group’s Lolita, Red Lulu, J House and Gabriele’s. His bartending skills were most recently enjoyed by loyal followers at South Norwalk’s Harlan Publick.

Room 112 is open 4 nights a week, Wednesday thru Saturday and is available for private, corporate meetings and special events. Room 112 has recently partnered with Harbor Harvest and will soon be providing complimentary small bites for its patrons and during the evening hours and later at night Camoro has something deliciously fun up his sleeve -
