Weekly Nibble: County Fairs, Iron Bartender, Clambakes, Potluck Picnics + More!

Cask Republic New Haven will host another installation of their famous Iron Bartender Competition on Monday August 2.  It starts at 6pm.  

Fairfield Wine and Cheese wants to introduce you to incredible local cheeses.  Join them for “The Northeast: Choices In Our Backyard” to learn about them and taste them.  It takes place at the Fairfield location on Tuesday August 4 from 7-9pm and in Greenwich on Thursday August 6 from 7-9pm.  The cost is $45 per person.  

Take a journey to the Mediterranean on Wednesday August 5 at Amarante’s Sea Cliff in New Haven.  The walk around tasting features wine and a buffet centering on that theme.  It takes place right on the seaside so guests can enjoy views of the harbor.  It goes from 6:30-9pm and costs $50 per person. 

On Thursday nights through September 17, take a ferry to the Sheffield Island Lighthouse for a clambake.  The evening unfolds in a tented pavilion on the lighthouse lawn.  It starts at $69 per person, with a tour of the lighthouse included in the charge.

This weekend, you can journey just outside of CT to Putnam, NY for the 2 day Putnam County Wine and Food Fest.  It highlights some of the region’s best wines and spirits and also includes a beer garden, food, and local artisans. http://www.putnamcountywinefest.com/ 

Did you know the Bridgeport Library offers cooking classes?  On August 8, take a “Carribbean Fusion Cooking Lesson” with Chef Pierre.  Space is limited, so be sure to register early by calling 203-576-7400 ext. 428 or emailing amarc@bridgeportpubliclibrary.org.  It goes from 2-3:30pm.

The Lebanon Country Fair takes place on Saturday August 8.  In addition to entertainment and exhibits, partake in some of CT’s best foods and witness state-wide baking competitions.  http://lebanoncountryfair.org/ 

The Connecticut Sierra Club wants to encourage you to join with a Potluck Picnic and Hike on Saturday August 8 at 1pm.  Embark on a hike at 10:30pm, and then socialize over a delicious summer meal.  They ask that participants bring a dish for 4-5 people, a place setting, and a water bottle.  It all takes place at Seven Falls Park in Haddam, CT.  http://connecticut.sierraclub.org/ 

On Sunday August 9, Parallel Post in Trumbull will host its 2nd 2015 Farm to Table Dinner with Tracey Medeiros and Christy Colasurdo, authors of Connecticut Farm Table Cookbook.  James Beard nominated Chef Dean James Max and Executive Chef Chris Molyneux will prepare a family style meal with fresh, seasonal ingredients.  Guests will also receive an autographed copy of the book.  It is $110 per person or $200 per couple (with one copy of the book per couple), plus tax and gratuity.  To RSVP, please email FairfieldUBookstoreEvents@gmail.com or call Nancy Quinn at 203-255-7756 ext. 501.  The event will take place at Gilbertie’s herb Garden.
