Farmer's Cow Dairy Farm Tours for 2013

The Farmer’s Cow announces its full schedule of farm tours for 2013 beginning April through October. During these tours, visitors will be able to walk the farms, meet the farmers and the cows that make the milk, learn about farming, and sample a variety of The Farmer’s Cow fresh local products. All walking tours and events are free and no reservation is required.

Farm Schedule 2013

April 20th, 1 – 3pm: Springtime on the Farm at Graywall Farms 
49 Chappell Road, Lebanon, CT 
Experience springtime on the farm with tours guided by members of the next generation of The Farmer’s Cow farmers. Enjoy a wagon ride to see the fields being prepared to plant the crops that will feed the cows and learn about agriculture in Connecticut.

June 8th, 1– 3pm: Connecticut Open House Day Farm Tour at Fairview Farm 
199 Route 177, Woodstock, CT 
Celebrate Connecticut Day with the Miller Family at Fairvue Farm, located next to the historic Woodstock Fairgrounds. Take a wagon ride to tour the dairy barn, learn all about what a cow eats in a day, visit the “milking parlor” where 40 cows at a time are milked, and see the big tractors that work the land.

June 22nd, 1– 3pm: Farm Tour at Mapleleaf Farm 
768 Gilead Street, Hebron, CT 
Celebrate the first full day of summer on Mapleleaf Farm, which has been in continuous operation since the early 1900s. Visit the expectant mothers in the calving field, tour the barns, and visit the calves in their greenhouse. Host Ned Ellis is a fourth-generation farmer and is proud to showcase the farm’s green energy initiatives including a solar panel system.

July 13, 1– 3pm: Farm Tour at Hytone Farm 
2047 Boston Post Road, Coventry, CT 
Visit Hytone Farm in Coventry where the fourth generation of the Peracchio family works the land to grow the crops that feed the cows that produce The Farmer’s Cow fresh Connecticut milk. Enjoy The Farmer’s Cow milk, ice cream and summer beverages under the shade of the fruit trees.

July 21st, 1– 4pm: Annual Ice Cream, Blueberry & Bluegrass Bash at Fort Hill Farms 
260 Quaddick Road, Thompson, CT 
Celebrate national ice cream month at this summer event that features complimentary samplings of the latest flavors of The Farmer’s Cow ice cream topped with fresh blueberries from Fort Hill Farm and The Farmer’s Cow fresh whipped cream. Listen to live bluegrass music, tour the award winning quintessential gardens, enjoy a wagon ride around the fields and meet the calves that will grow up to join the herd as the next generation of The Farmer’s Cow milking cows.

August 3rd, 1– 3pm: Annual Corn Roast and Farm Tour at Cushman Farms 
393 Lebanon Avenue, Franklin, CT 
Join the Cushman Family to tour their family farm with a state-of-the-art dairy complex that includes a rotary milking parlor and New England’s first milk direct cooling system. After the tour enjoy farm festivities, taste delicious sweet corn and sample The Farmer’s Cow products.

September 7th, 1– 4pm: Celebrate the Harvest at the Corn Maze at Fort Hill Farms 
260 Quaddick Road, Thompson, CT 
Explore The Farmer’s Cow Corn Maze Adventure and get free admission to the Mini Moo Maze at this annual family fun event. Activities also include hay rides, farm and garden attractions and plenty of samples of The Farmer’s Cow fresh local products.

October 5th – 1 – 3pm: Much More than Moos at Cushman Farms 
393 Lebanon Avenue, Franklin, CT 
Join us for an all you can eat ice cream social, visit the cows at milking time, sit in the tractors, take a walk or a wagon ride across the fields, enjoy the fall foliage and see the calves.

October 14th – 2pm: Cows and Fields at Graywall Farms in Lebanon 
49 Chappell Road, Lebanon, CT 
Tour the barns and walk the fields of Graywall Farm’s rolling farm land. Visit the cows at milking time and learn about milk production, and the benefits of Connecticut’s Farmland Preservation Program while enjoying the great views of surrounding fields and woods in fall color.

October 20th – 1pm: Over the Hill and Through the Woods at Fort Hill Farms in Thompson 
260 Quaddick Road, Thompson, CT 
Stroll the farm’s extensive gardens and see the fields that grow the crops that feed the cows. Take a historic walk through the Maple Grove Lane Way and view the hills of the tri-state area from the hilltop fields in the extreme Northeast Corner of Connecticut.

About The Farmer’s Cow 
The Farmer’s Cow is a group of six Connecticut dairy farms that produces fresh, local milk, half & half, heavy cream and ice cream for Southern New England. The Farmer’s Cow dairy products are pasteurized the “traditional way” and are never ultra‐pasteurized. The members of The Farmer’s Cow do not use Artificial Growth Hormones (rBST) on any of their cows. They also sell Connecticut‐sourced, all‐natural eggs, apple cider, seasonal beverages and coffee.
