Blu Parrot: Music, Food & Fun Opens in Westport Today

A new food and music venue has opened in Westport today in the Saugatuck neighborhood...The Blu Parrot. With the team from The Georgetown Saloon at the helm, The Blue Parrot is poised for some good times in the old Jasmine location. With nibbles like Duck Confit Knish, Blistered Sheshito Peppers, and Oyster Po' Boys on the menu, and one of the best Kids Menus I've seen in the area, this may be a place to watch. Here is their story. (SEE VIDEO ABOVE)

Let us know what you think if you check them out.

I can't say enough good things about this spot! One of the owners, Adam, I met recently and he is so down to earth and welcomes every one of his guests with sincerity! Great music, food and overall environment! Parking can be a challenge but there is additional parking nearby. This place is a big hit and we will become regulars!

Well, the silence on that other issue is deafening, so I will just MOVE ON to the next food-related issue.

Blu Parrot (and who on earth thinks that is a good name for anything other than a surf and skate shop) but anyway,
the inevitable has occurred, and Blu Parrot has indeed closed.

A few ideas for the space since we need a live music venue around here almost as much as...(please place your own completely un-PC joke here). Think nuns, crippled children, or amputees, just to get you started.

What the space would be good for is what it used to be. The Arrow. Bring it back.

Another idea...Upscale Chinese, run by Americans but employing the best Chinese chefs with an eye toward high quality ingredients. Because there is ZERO good Chinese in these parts, and who the (heck) knows what they use for food. I really like that idea.

Ultimately what we really need is what we will not get...a place with high quality affordable food where regular folk can eat without having to mortgage the ranch.

There are no doubt lots of reasons that this ambitious project only survived 7 months, a record flop time even in the world of FF County restaurants. But as a long time player who was really excited to have a new place to perform, I will tell you that there was a gaping hole instead of a HEART under the Parrot's feathers. Instead of a community that respected musicians, the rap on the Blu Parrot quickly became "don't go there unless you're part of the clique." I personally know MANY people would go one time to the so called OpenMic night, be treated badly, and never return. In the meantime, the Black Duck starts doing an OpenMic a half mile away, in a much less attractive spot and you literally can't find a place to park. That tells the tale ina nutshell
the moral of the story is I don't care how beautiful your restaurant is or how good your food is: if you don't LIKE your customers, you will fail.
