Tim’s Philly Steaks Opens in Norwalk

Tim’s Philly Steaks opened on Westport Avenue in Norwalk several weeks ago and I am not one to resist the calling of bread, meat, cheese and grilled onions. So I braved the weather to try one of my favorite sandwiches, and I was not disappointed.

Many years ago I was taught that eating a cheesesteak is always performed while in “the position.” This entails standing with your legs positioned directly beneath your shoulders, a slight bend forward at the waist, a second bend at the neck with your jaw protruding and always use two hands on the sandwich. The goal is to avoid any of the delicious ingredients landing on your chest or stomach. So when I sampled Tim’s cheesesteak while seated at a table (there are three booths and four tables inside) it was an unusual feeling, but I still assumed “the position” of leaning forward and I successfully consumed the sandwich sans accident

Tim offers four sizes of sandwiches (6”, 8”, 12”, and 16”) with a choice of three different meats, rib-eye, chicken and pork (a veggie steak is also available). The chicken is shredded breast while the pork is shredded shoulder. In addition crinkled cut fries and onion rings are available as side orders and for those who like to mess with perfection, Tim has an array of additional toppings including raw onions, lettuce, tomato, bacon, mushrooms and hot or sweet peppers.

I ordered a traditional cheesesteak with grilled onions and whiz (usually referred to as a cheese wit) and it was delicious. Tim “imports” the rib-eye steak from Philadelphia and slices it paper thin. Next the meat is cooked on the flattop grill immediately adjacent to the must-have grilled onions. The steam rising from two of my favorite food groups is fantastic. Tim next gathers a nice portion of meat and places it into a delicious hoagie roll. And this is no ordinary roll. Tim’s hoagie rolls arrive from the legendary Philadelphia bakery, Amoroso’s Bakery, the supplier to some of the great Philadelphia cheesesteak establishments. After the addition of the grilled onions, the sandwich is completed with good old-fashioned Kraft Cheez Whiz. After one bite you feel that you have been transported to the streets of Philadelphia. The meat is moist and flavorful, the onions are delicious and the Cheez Whiz is, well Cheez Whiz.

For a delicious sandwich whose roots date back almost 100 years, Tim’s Philly Steaks is a great new addition to Fairfield County.

Totally agree. We've eaten there a couple of times over the past few weeks and Tim's is a great addition to the area. They also offer the crabby fries (with old bay) for those of us from the Maryland area. Good stuff. They need a better sign so you can see them easier as you drive towards it.

Can't wait to check it out. Having been to many of Philly's legendary cheesesteak places, I am interested to taste how close it comes. Good to see he's doing the Old Bay thing with the fries, that was big in Philly as well. Will definitely stop in soon to order a "Whiz Wit."

Forget about going to Philly now it's right here in Norwalk !!!!! This place get a 10 , everything is fresh and the steak is real steak !!!! If you haven't tryed it yet , the you don't know what your missing !!!!

Great to know Tim's is so authentic. It would never occur to me to go in, having grown up on Pat's, Geno's and Jim's in Philly. I am taking my kids this weekend!!

Being from Philly I was kind of excited to find out about Tim's. But I was somewhat disappointed in the finished product. I ordered the 12" cheese steak. The sandwich was cut in half and one half had barely any steak on it. Mostly bread and the bread seemed kind of stale. Also what's with the banana peppers. I remember cherry peppers being the peppers of choice on an authentic philly steak. To get my fix of Philly Cheese steaks, i"ll continue to buy the shaved steak from Trader Joe's and make my own. Sorry Tim.

I am from Philadelphia and my wife Heidi saw Tim's on NBC 30.Needless to say we had to try it out.We went today and the place is a really cool little sandwich shop.We had our cheesesteaks and they were absolutely AWESOME! Tim is a super-nice guy and the rest of the staff is so friendly and great.THEY DO a super job and if you are looking for a super-sandwich go to Tim's..........Thanks for the Pork cheesesteak Tim,it was REALLY,REALLY tasty!!!!!!!!!!

We tried Tim's a couple of weeks ago. Yuck. Bread was soggy, french fries and onion rings nothing special, tasted like a Steakum sandwich. Everything is overpriced for what you get. If that's what Philly steaks are SUPPOSED to taste like, we just don't get the appeal.

we went not as great as you built up to be. the place was clean but the staff has no idea about food contamination they were all wearing gloves but as i watched them make my sandwich the guy grab a bag of raw beef in his hands and the went right back to grabbing the bread and making the sandwiches with the same gloves.Just because you have gloves on does not mean you cant cross containment i ate the inside of the sandwich and tossed the bread,

lal,I understand about the cross contamination but the place really does a great job.My mother was a dietician and you have no idea about what you eat.The way people go about handling food is terrible............
