Pancake Breakfast & Pop Up Farmers' Mkt @ Wakeman Farm

Got kids? Like pancakes? And bacon? And all things farm-y and fun?
Come on down to an old-fashioned “Pancake Breakfast & Pop Up Farmers' Market," a family event at Wakeman Town Farm (134 Cross Hwy, Westport) on Sunday, October 2 from 9 a.m.-noon. It's a fun, fall $5 Pancake Breakfast and Pop-Up Farmers' Market on the farm, featuring an array of local vendors and craftspeople selling everything from artisanal foods to handmade crafts from an eclectic assortment of local vendors. (Rain or shine.)
In addition to a country farm breakfast with pancakes, nitrate-free bacon and fresh maple syrup and coffee and juice, sponsored by Christie’s Country Store and Graze Delivered, there will be a host of local vendors and craftspeople selling their wares in a festive, farmers' market atmosphere. On site will be some chickens and an Angora rabbit, along with a pair of adorable Pygmy goats, led around by a local farmer, to share and educate about what the team will doing at the Farm. There will also be games for the kiddies. It's an event for the whole family, and the pancake breakfast is just $5 per person!
The Pancake Breakfast & Pop Up Farmers’ Market is being held in support of the Wakeman Town Farm and Sustainability Center, an organic demonstration homestead open to the public. The fundraising goal is to raise $20,000 to return farm stewards Mike and Carrie Aitkenhead back to their "homestead" on the farm. A grassroots group of farm supporters has already raised $10,000 towards this goal
Exciting things happening at Westport's Town Farm, which is gearing up to be the community's go-to resource for all things farm-related, from backyard bee- and chicken-keeping to composting and organic farming. With the community’s support, the Farm will help educate the community with local healthy food production, responsible land stewardship, sustainable practices and a community-service orientation.
Activities include educational workshops and student internships, as well as hosting after-school environmental clubs, growing fruits and vegetables, teaching animal husbandry and providing a farm stand and CSA pickup location. There will be Jr. Farmer camp (collecting eggs from nesting boxes, feeding chickens, bunnies, goats (Yes! There will be goats!), harvesting veggies and turning them into delicious snacks, tending a garden, and making crafts using items from the garden, etc.) and more.

Wow, looks like a terrific way to kick off fall. Pancakes and bacon, oh my, as well as one stop fresh farm shopping. Looking forward to it. Race you to the bacon.
The event was a huge success! The sun shone and Westporters came out in droves to support the farm, which is an historic town gem that is being re-fashioned into an educational center that will be home to kids' farm camps and programs and workshops for adults. Throughout the day, there were baby pygmy goats, angora bunnies, fancy fowl, as well as kids' crafts, vendors and an old-school community vibe. John Hooper, of Christie's Country Store, went out of his way to supply a never-ending stream of pancake and fixin's to the hungry throngs. Thanks to all who came out to support the Wakeman Town Farm! The event raised $7,000 and the Wakeman Town Farm has the money it needs to resume operations!
