Shout Out: Best Ice Cream / Frozen Dessert in Fairfield County

It's 95 degrees outside. You're dripping...literally. You head to your car to seek out the only cure for the common summer...ICE CREAM. Or perhaps a little gelato, frozen yogurt, or something in between. Where do you go to get the goods?

Robeks original tart yogurt does it for me every time!
Dairy Queen
i agree that robeks tart (with a little raspberry on top) is my tried-and-true go to refresher. (you remember that ol' "tart-gasm" article, right?) but pinkberrry in fairfield takes the cake for toppings. an original there with fresh pomegranate seeds and some italian caramel sauce on top - WINNER!!
Go-to Frozen Desserts:
1. Gelatissimo (New Canaan) – Easily my favorite and most delicious frozen dessert in FFD CTY. Incredible flavors, incredible texture.
2. Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shoppe (Ridgefield) – Serving Mr. Shane’s great ice cream in the back of the store. You can grab some fantastic candy while you wait. Only 6-8 flavors available.
3. Dr. Mikes (Bethel) – Well worth the drive, almost an institution for decades. Around the corner from the Sycamore making for a great excursion. Only 6-8 flavors available.
But my favorite in the state is not in FFD County...Rich’s in Oxford on Route 67 just south of I-84. Plenty of flavors, plenty of people in line, plenty of reason to drive there.
We love to go to Ferris creamery!
I'm going to second Gelatissimo in New Canaan.
Has anyone been to Walnut Beach Creamery in Milford? Looking for intel.
Ferris Acres Creamery in Newtown. I'm a little biased because it is my hometown, but this place delivers on charm (it's a working dairy farm) and choice (dozens of combinations) and location (off the beaten path). Dr. Mike's in Bethel is a close second, quality and creaminess takes precedent with a slim but worthy selection. If you're willing to travel and happen to be in the neighborhood, I also love Salem Valley Farm in Salem, CT.
FroYo is another story but local favorites are Swizzles and Peach Wave. I think a FroYo shout-out may be in order soon too!
I like Pinkberry in Fairfield, especially for their fresh fruit topping choices.
Micalizzi's in Bridgeport. Pinkberry in Fairfield.
I like the Coconut Almond Fudge from Dr. Mikes - but promise to check out Micalizzi's soon.
1. Ferris Acres! Atmosphere, totally kid -friendly, and amazing flavors. I get their ice cream cakes for people just so I can eat them myself at the party (I know....)
2. Gelatissimo. Nuccia is so sweet, and her Arancia flavor is incredibly tart and refreshing. Slip into the courtyard next door to the dance studio (which is itself next door to Gelatissimo) for a private gelato party.
3, Micalizzi's Italian Ice. So light, not syrupy. Coconut is s real standout.
For frozen yogurt definitely Pinkberry and for ice cream Timothy's in Brideport, you can smell the ice cream being made down the street it is so good
I also say Micalizzi's in Bridgeport. Every single flavor is homemade. The owner makes Italian ice in a TON of flavors, sugar free Italian ice in 3 flavors and her own ice cream. Even the soft ice cream is thick and delicious. Make sure you get some of the Pumpkin ice cream in the fall. So delicious!
Ferris Creamery in Newtown is outstanding when you want to take a drive.
Gofer in downtown Bridgeport.
Pinkberry in Fairfield.
Head up 95 North to Mystic for some sweet scoops at Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream! Check it out here: http://mysticshops.tv/drawbridge-ice-cream/
Brendon's 101 in Rowayton - they have this AMAAAZING chocolate coconut that tastes like a cold Almond Joy bar!
I like getting Buck's ice cream at Scoopy Doo's, downtown at the harbor in Milford. http://scoopydooice.com/
My latest obsession Is Jeni's Splendid ice cream! With flavors like Goat Cheese Cognac Fig and Riesling Pear Sorbet, Jeni's uses farm fresh ingredients from small Ohio farms. http://jenisicecreams.com/
Available at Fairfield Cheese Company in Fairfield.
For frozen yogurt, I really like Swirl in New Canaan. They rotate flavors and toppings pretty frequently, there's enough seating, and the staff is friendly.
Gelatissimo in New Canaan and Pinkberry in Fairfield are the best options - the gelato and yogurt taste better because they are not made with corn syrup.
Mr. Frostys in Norwalk. Great night trip for the family. They have the best soft serve I've ever tasted, I think it's more like custard. The hard ice cream is delicious as well, although I don't think they make it there. Nice selection, outdoor seating for the family - overall a fun place to spend a few minutes on a summer evening. Careful on weekend nights, the line can get pretty long, but it's definitely worth the wait. Also best hot fudge!!! I always ask for extra.
Stephanie, Walnut Beach is very good and worth a drive. The trick is to get a cup or cone big enuf to make it to the beach three blocks away. .
That said, not as fantastic as Dr. Mikes, Gelatissimo, or a decadent concrete from Shake Shack.
The homemade flavors at Sweet Ashley's in Norwalk are tops for our family. For me, it's Blueberry or Strawberry Cheesecake - I love the fresh flavors with the texture of the graham cracker crumbs. I think we'll head over there today!
The Dairy Bar in UCONN is my new favorite. But for a close scoop, Gofers and Pink Berry in Fairfield
"HEAVEN" in Sandy Hook section of Newtown. Homemade ice cream and ices are made with fresh fruit and not overly sweetened or colored with artificial sugars and chemicals like the the other places in town. Strawberry Lemonade Ices are to die for!
I certainly can agree with many of your readers regarding Dr. Mikes in Bethel and Gelatissimo in New Canaan, but I am wondering why noone has mentioned Cold Stone Creamery in Stamford and Fairfield. We think their ice cream is fabulous and the flavors very fresh-nothing chemical. Looking forward to trying some of the other suggestions.
