Shout Out: What Food Are You Hoarding for Hurricane Irene?

Hurricane Irene is bearing down on Connecticut. Crusty bread, bottles of water, charcuterie and wine are flying off the grocery store shelves. From the practical to the not-so-practical...
What are you buying (read: hoarding) to ready yourself for the storm?

Definitely some good wine, coffee beans, and a flashlight
Beer and wine. Potentially tequila. Oh, and I'm brewing a big pot of coffee to keep in the fridge, in case we lose power and I can't use the trusty Keurig.
Nothing like a good storm to be really bad. A great bottle or two of wine, some great soft cheese that must be consumed, some charcuterie and a baguette. Then, when the power goes out.....have a great dark and stormy evening.
Cold brewed coffee, almond butter, a few good bottles of wine & Dark & Stormy fixins, That should do it.
The Stop and Shop shelves are showing signs of impending storm. The bananas were all gone... the peanut butter was almost all gone. No Skippy, a few jars of Jiffy... Only generic apple sauce. I have all the essentials, beer, wine, water, seltzer, cans of juice (for mixed drinks, of course!) nuts, crackers, bread, peanut butter, Nutella, apples... and plenty of chocolate! Bags of ice are resting comfortably in the downstairs freezer (for my beer, wine and mixers!)
We've loaded our gas tanks for the grill to make morning coffee, hot chocolate for the kiddos and anything else that we'll want to cook. This will work for the meats that start to defrost should we lose power. Also great excuse to grill a pizza! Sadly we have no gas in the kitchen. I have candles, flashlights, my food mags and my September issue of Vogue... Come on Irene!
Ice cream. My kid just had 5 teeth pulled.
Ice and water for sure, but I'm thankful for a gas stove so I can still cook. The media is making this seem like it will be bad. And if it is, it's the perfect time to make a dent in some of this Dominican rum, Mamajuana. Very good stuff indeed.
Q tonic, crusty bread, local tomatoes, and some nice cheeses. And gold fish crackers.
Three chickens, some eggs, yeast, flour, watermelon, milk and butter and lots of salad from the store on the way home from the airport. Already in the freezer and storage room are steaks, bolognese, pasta sauce, 20 pounds of hot dogs and pickled whatevers. Tomorrow I'll grab a pork shoulder for a slow roast and the better half will bake some fun stuff. Interesting we have a case of whites in the fridge and we do not drink. Already checking to see what movies to watch.
Be safe everyone!!!
Just roasted my GROW AND BEHOLD organic kosher chicken on top of a bed of Sport Hill Farm tomatoes, onions and garlic. The unexpected by-product is the glistening jus which i have poured out and will freeze to jump start a stock when it is time to make soup. Oh yea, we bought a case o wine and beer....
I've got beer, hard liquor, and a bunch of non-perishable goodies I bought on sale at Eataly. Oh, and water (still and seltzer) too.
Take Leeanne's post and add cheese and bread. This is going to be fun.
Made some lasagna, manicotti, bolognese sauce, homemade pizzas, pasta with broccoli aiola, chocolate chip cookies, and other goodies... Can you tell I am Italian?lol... Also washed and cut-up fresh fruit and veggies to make it easier if we lose power... Stay safe everyone...
As my Mother-in-law walked into the house with a Pepe's sausage and pepperoni pie the electricity returned. There is a Food God and (s)he has shined on Casa Jfood. :-)
Hope everyone else is not far behind. Be safe.
