New Canaan's Filling Station's June Burger & Shake

The June 2011 Filling Station Special Burger and Shake are a tribute to the upcoming summer season with a backyard favorite Chili Cheeseburger and a delicious Strawberry Maple Waffle Shake.

The Chili Cheeseburger includes the Filling Station’s farm-raised meat topped with cheese, their house-made chili, lettuce, and tomato.  The “chili” is the Filling Station’s Sloppy Joe, which was developed in-house after significant research and development and includes BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, vinegar and several other ingredients to allow for a sweet and sour combination that nicely complements the flavors in the organic meat. The lettuce adds a nice crispy element, the tomato accents the tomato-ey based chili and the cheese is an essential part of any hamburger, in my opinion. The lightly toasted bun is still a favorite with a light exterior crunchy and the soft interior. I enjoyed this burger and it is a good way to start to the upcoming summer months.

The Strawberry Maple Waffle Shake begins with a mixture of house-made macerated strawberries. Filling Station next adds organic maple syrup and strawberry jam to intensify the flavors. The strawberry blend is fresh and delicious and I really liked the end result. Once the strawberry shake is blended, they add chopped waffle pieces. The addition of the chopped waffle pieces creates a crunchy element that I really enjoy, but makes it impossible to use a standard straw, so make sure you grab one of the long spoons to enjoy with the hamburger. I also understand that Filling Station is now satisfied with the product that it will include a strawberry shake as a regular menu item.

Filling Station’s June Special Burger and Shake is a pleasant way to usher in the summer season with a tradition North American combination. Stay tuned for next month’s overview of the Filling Station Burger and Shake of the Month which will be another twist on an old-time favorite.

I think that everybody should have a Red Ryder BB gun. They're very good for Christmas. I don't think that a football's a very good Christmas present.
