I grew up going to Swanky Franks. They've got me on nostalgia alone.

Super Duper Weenie, by a wide margin.

Super Duper Weenies! If I were to make them, brand I love most - Hummel's.

I would say the best places grill their bun and the dogs are crunchy with a little spice. Tomlinsons, Merritt canteen, raleys and swanky Franks are all contenders in this category. I would have to say Tomlinsons is the best. Super duper Weenies is probably the worst hot dog in Fairfield county with great toppings and too much hype.

Nice to see Merrit Canteen get a mention. I have fond memories of their burgers and dogs as a kid. JK's is also on my list to try, but never have been. Anyone ever hit up JK's Texas Red Hots in Danbury?

For the house I import my hot dogs from NJ but when I go out for a great hot dog my first choice is Burgers Shakes and Fries. The dog at BSF does not receive enough press since the burgers are so over the top fantastic, but the hot dogs at BSF are in the same league.

+1 for Rawleys.

May 30, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterYep, I said it!

Danny's in Stratford, Ferry Boulevard. Cute little three-seater inside, 3 tables outside.Fabulous dogs, all the fixin's - reminds me of the old Bob's Charcoal Grill on Rte 7 in Wilton from the 60's!

Super Duper Weenie is the obvious choice, lives up to the hype. No hating on any of the others, and how I could have missed Rawley's these past few years living in Fairfield County I don't know: it's now at the top of the "need to visit" list, and love how the it's karmically located near Mrs. Green's Health Food and Placebo shop.

JK's is quite unsung--a Danbury favorite, but not enough "Gold Coasters" ever venture up there. Order one with "Chili, cheese and everything" and a shake... and be ready to feel full for the next 3 days!

Norwalk - Swanky Franks - with a little chili on the side! Can't be beat!

Absolutely Rawley's. Just amazing.

Super Duper Weenies ALL. THE. WAY! I will drive 20 mins away to get their delicious dawgs! (I live 5 mins. from another hotdog place.)

Rawleys.
Duchess dog w/ the works always heals when nothing else is around!

Merritt Canteen is the historical "best dog in Fairfield County" but it's grip on that title has loosened over the years. Danny's and Rawley's can challenge it on any given day. I am shocked to see SD Weenie listed in the comments. I agree with the person above that thinks their dogs do not compete with the drive-ins.

omg super duper weenie! I will use any excuse to cheat on my food plan to go there!

Rawley's, Swanky Franks, JK's & Merrit Canteen all have great dogs, but I'll only stop if I'm in the area. Super Duper Weenie I would go out of my way for...their dogs topped with cheese, bacon, mustard and raw onion are out of this world!!

Sycamore Drive-In, Bethel. Thank me later.

Local is Super Duper Weenie and if I'm in the mood for a fried dog Rawleys. Rutts Hut in NJ for the out of the way dog.

Super Duper is good. But have you tried the chili dogs at the new Way Back Burger in Stratford across from Curran's? Definitely a contender. Are they a chain/franchise? First I've seen.

It's not in Fairfield County or even in Connecticut, but Walter's in Mamaroneck (behind the high school) is well worth the trip.

Rawleys, no contest.
