Babycat Milkbar Opens in Wilton

With a cup of iced Ruby Slippers tea in hand, I made my way through Babycat Milkbar, Fairfield County's latest pop-up shop and cafe in Wilton.

The brainchild of Jeena Choi, Babycat Milkbar is a temporary shop designed as a gathering space and small retail hub for coffee, tea and often hard-to-find locally sourced treats. The shop's items include the owners own brand of tea, Mamacat’s Q. Tea and others we know and love such as Cake Box in Ridgefield, SoNo Baking Company in Norwalk, Red Bee Apiary in Weston, Zumbach's Gourmet Coffee in New Canaan as well as other local artisans, photographers and crafters.

On my recent visit, there were lots of sweet temptations inlucuding miniature meringues, Italian macaroons and Cake Box cupcakes in addition to a selection of hot and iced teas and coffees. The teas and tisanes are a destination in and of themselves. The Ruby Slippers is a sweet, herbal tisane which is refreshing served over ice.

For Choi, tea is a family affair. Her two-year old brand Mamacat Q. Tea has already established a cult following from those who love the zero calorie Tisane approach. And Choi's husband is a co owner of In Pursuit of Tea, a popular high-end loose leaf tea brand.

The pop up shop concept and Choi's individual take on it, is perfect for a pocket town like Wilton where locating the things you crave can become a gas-guzzling exercise. Choi is vetting some of the best, and her favorite, brands in Fairfield County for us all to enjoy. The shop is scheduled to be open through July 2011.

Babycat Milkbar will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and they are located at 300 Danbury Road (Rt. 7) at the intersection of Rt. 7 and Rt. 33. inside the New England Historical Connection

I LOVE the idea of a pop-up tea bar/goodies outlet. It would be great to see more of these throughout the state.

I stumbled upon this new cafe on Saturday. I love the design of the shop and the delicious treats. I'll be going back with friends for tea or coffee and more of those yummy cupcakes!! Good luck to the Choi's!
