Michele's Pies (& Cafe) Opens in Westport

Michele's Pies of Norwalk has arrived at its latest home in Westport! Situated at the old Baskin and Robbins location at the corner of Bay Street and the Post Road, Michele's Pies is a welcome newcomer to the area - finally, a great place for a patisserie-style breakfast in Westport. Michele Albano and fiance' Kelly Stuart opened the new pie haven last month and it's time to "sing a song of sixpence!" With a variety of delectable treats, Michele's Pies has something for every craving. From scrumptious CHOCCOLATE/BOURBAN/PECAN to KEY LIME to COUNTRY APPLE to the many savory delights including CHICKEN POT PIE, AUSTRALIAN BEEF, and outrageous LOBSTER QUICHE, Michele's Pies are sure to satisfy. And the pies are just the beginning! The shop opens for breakfast at 7:00 a.m. and serves BEAN & LEAF coffee (single origin, fair trade and organic) out of New London.

There are many blends to choose from as well as ALL the specialty espresso drinks made to order. (There is also SAVVY TEA out of Madison, CT for those who need a lovely cuppa!) With muffins, cookies, and many other baked goods to choose from (all baked at the Norwalk location) Michele and Kelly are doing breakfast right!

But there's more, of course. Michele has won several awards for her CHALLAH, recently BEST in BREAD from the CT SPECIALTY FOOD ASSOCIATION and sells 5 braid, 4 braid and circular for the holidays. She also bakes a CINNOMON SWIRL loaf. TERRA NOVA boules and bagettes are also available for purchase. In fact, Michele's Pies sells many local products from CT as well as some wonderful items from Vermont. Though Michele is a CT native, she began her work in The Green Mountain State and has remained loyal to her vendor friends up north. There's honey, gourmet mustard, maple candy, salad dressing, specialty nuts, seeds and more.

And let's not forget the BLUE MOON SORBET (also from Vermont and most flavors are dairy free) and some crazy ice cream flavors from ADIRONDACK CREAMERY in Kingston, NY. Example - to transform our CHOCOLATE/BOURBAN/PECAN PIE, we "a la moded" it with BARK EATER ice cream - vanilla with english, almond toffee - uh...YUM!!!!!

Michele and her Kelly are on their way. In fact, they may have already arrived. Michele was featured in Bobby Flay's THROWDOWN TV series and cookbook and her own PIE cookbook will be available shortly. She was last year's spokeswoman for CRISCO and answered questions on the pie hot-line over the holidays. She will be interviewed by Willard Scott on April 8th at 8:30 am. Michele's got a lot going on. The shop will close for one week in the beginning of April while Michele enters the NATIONAL PIE CHAMPIONSHIPS on April 4th. Then, it will reopen on the 13th and there will be a two-day GRAND OPENING EVENT scheduled for April 16th and 17th. Don't miss out as free goodies will be offered from 1:00-3:00 pm. The summer promises more outdoor seating, brand new ice cream flavors, green-tea smoothies, iced coffees, and outrageous new pies - CREAMSICKLE, NAPOLEAN, and S'MORES are a few already in the works. Westport's "finally got a piece of the PIE!"

Much needed in Westport, this is my new favorite morning meeting spot. The coffee is solid. The a.m. treats are wonderful. Plus, everyone behind the counter is amazingly friendly.
