Swizzles Frozen Yogurt Opens This Weekend

There is a new tart yogurt kid in town. Swizzles Frozen Yogurt is opening this week in Darien and Wilton with a third store in Ridgefield slated to open early this summer.  Opening parties offering free yogurt are scheduled for Swizzles Darien on Saturday, April 16 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Swizzles Wilton is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Swizzles will sell its yogurt at $.59 per ounce and will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday.

Swizzles sets itself apart with a coveted offering, the Bloomingdale’s brand flavor. This is a plain yogurt recipe that toes the line between tart and sweet so well that it continues to be the best-selling item at the Bloomingdale’s Cafe after three decades and 19 of the stores’ cafes nation-wide.

We were lucky to get a sneak preview of the Darien shop with owner Adam Kessner, a father of three (lucky taste-testers) and resident of nearby Rye, NY. We instantly gravitated to taste the Bloomingdale’s brand, what he is billing as Swizzles signature flavor.  It’s creamier and just a bit sweeter than Pinkberry’s original flavor, with a more even-handed balance of sweet and tart, and just a hint of lemon. In addition to the Bloomingdale’s brand “original” flavor, Swizzles will also offer vanilla, chocolate, cake batter, strawberry and pomegranate.

Toppings include classics such as M&M's, fresh fruit, cheese cake cubes, a variety of candy, granola, and poppers, spheres of fruit juice that owner Adam Kessner promises you’ll find no where else. Poppers come in mango, strawberry, passion fruit and orange.

In addition to cups of frozen yogurt which are purchased by the ounce ($.59), Swizzles will soon sell yogurt cakes, sandwiches and pops. In the colder months you can also buy their hot chocolate and apple cider.

Swizzles will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. Locations: Swizzles Darien, 1029 Post Road, Darien, CT and Swizzles Wilton, 5 River Road, Wilton, CT with a Swizzles Ridgefield, Main Street, opening TBA.

At $9.60 per pound, these should be very profitable franchises, especially given these are self-serve - but at whose expense? The yogurt is absolutely not worth the price. Interesting light wall but the same toppings you get everywhere else at 2x the price. Once is enough for me.

Way too pricey for this product.
