Marcus Dairy Closes This Sunday

It's the end of an era.

The Marcus Dairy Bar in Danbury will close its doors after sixty years in business this Sunday, February 6. The iconic diner and popular meeting spot for hundreds of motorcycles will be razed to make way for a shopping mall.

The experience of the decades-old orange vinyl seats and wood paneling paired well with what can only be deemed as standard diner fare with the exception of the stand-out "Roadfood" turkey sandwiches and milkshakes. Marcus Dairy drew a steady stream of regulars for their old-fashioned dairy bar, counter service and convenient location under I-84 adjacent to the Danbury Fair Mall and the Danbury Airport who will all certainly feel the loss of this irreplaceable Danbury landmark.

They're razing it to put up another strip mall?!? As if the Danbury Fair area needs another soulless plaza.

Marcus Dairy Bar was an institution, a throwback to a different era. It might not have been the prettiest girl at the dance, but it certainly had the most character.

Sad news.

@Unsatisfied Mind: Could not have said it better myself. That place had soul.

We are ALL going to miss the Dairy Bar a great deal. The family thanks and appreciates all the patrons who have visited through the years. No one makes a black & white malt like my husband, Neil Marcus. All the family has worked there while growing up and nothing can replace the wonderful memories we all have. Remember you can still by Marcus Dairy products at local stores. There is a list in the Dairy Bar.

THANK YOU TO ALL!

Well, that's depressing! i had no idea that was even possible. Where will Super Sunday move to? The parking lot of the plaza?

To the owners: Many, many people will miss the experience of Marcus Dairy. So sad! Thank YOU for all your hard work and generosity.

You've got to wonder why they couldn't at least preserve the restaurant as was the original plan.

The heartless corporate wrecking ball destroys yet another famed institution!

what happens when all of these amazing places are gone. where will we get our morning grease fixes and will we ever be able to go out in public in our pj's and slippers again and not get rejected at the door.

Money rules - i remember getting out on the bike early enough to park by the "glass " it was a natural organic bike meet one that grew because it just worked - the location the food - the coffee - freedom from harassment. It just worked - never felt weird (except the commercial super sundays.) it was time - the bike scene has changes the klds weren't there the ave age at marcus last summer was 50+ . Rt 7 is an endless strip mall until you leave new Milford. Kent is now a speed trap and very biker adverse -- Things change Im goignto point my bike north instead of east try the diner in taconic off rt 82 . ride into the Catskills rhinebeck kingston - etc - rest in peace marcus -- it sure was cool while it lasted

That area has been going soulless ever since Lloyd Lumber's Operations center closed up shop.
