Carpe Diem Opens in New Canaan CT w/ Upscale Italian

Carpe Diem, the newest addition to the New Canaan culinary landscape opened ahead of schedule this week on Locust Avenue in the space formerly occupied by 50 Coins. After enjoying several dishes during the last two days, I am incredibly excited to have exceptional Italian food in town. The highlights of my two visits included a creamy Mozzarella di Buffalo paired with roasted red peppers and Prosciutto di San Daniele, a wonderful housemade Spaghetti with shrimp, scallops, mussels, little neck clams, arugula, and radicchio in an organic tomato sauce, housemade Pappardelle Bolognese, a tender and moist Veal Piccatina with a light lemon sauce, and a perfectly prepared prime Ribeye steak. On the sweeter side, I sampled a very complex apple pie as well as a selection of chocolate, vanilla and blackberry Cabernet gelato. All of these dishes were very well executed and I look forward to my next meal at Carpe Diem.

While a detailed “Behind the Scenes” review is in the works, I would recommend that food lovers of Fairfield County plan a visit to a very special restaurant in New Canaan.

Thank you for your comment. There are over 20 sit down restaurants in New Canaan of which only 5 are Italian. Of these five I would only recommend Carpe Diem and one other.

I think it is pretty exciting news to have a great Italian Restaurant in town. Go and give it a shot and see how good it is.

Walked in with a friend on a rainy Tuesday night. We were greeted by the owner and were seated promptly in a very warm and intimate dining room. There were several tables occupied - but Perry the waiter immediately gave us his full attention and helped us select our appetizers and entrees - after describing the specials and answering all questions we had about the menu. We ordered two glasses of the house Italian Cabernet - that I have to say - were excellent - (I am a bit of a wine snob). The appetizers arrived quickly - which included an arugula salad with red onion - and a crispy artichoke with endive in a balsamic reduction. Both were outstanding. (Fresh Italian Bread and Extra Virgin Olive Oil were plentiful) We followed with entrees of Grilled Wild King Salmon - and Halibut. Both were cooked to perfection and served with sautéed spinach as we requested. (Perry allowed us all the flexibility we wanted - to tailor the entrees to our liking). We finished with expresso - tea - and some biscotti - (that were not on the menu)... but Perry again came to the rescue to accommodate our request. I also added a touch of Sambuca to complement our dessert.
All I can say is that the entire experience was a full cut above anything else in the area. The owner and staff do their very best to please - as does the chef with his remarkable talent. Just Go There - It's Wonderful.
