3 New Picks For Top Burgers: Greenwich to Westport

Shake Shack

Earlier this summer CTBites published my list of Ten Recommended Hamburgers from Greenwich to Westport. Subsequent to the article I received numerous suggestions, both here and through my e-mail.  I want to thank all of the passionate hamburger lovers for some great options for me to try and I made every attempt to visit as many as I could.

With summer now officially behind us, I wanted to report back and add three destinations to my list of Recommended Hamburgers from Greenwich to Westport.

The Lime (Norwalk) Hidden among the vegetarian and chicken options at this annual recipient of Best Vegetarian in Fairfield County is the Lime’s “California Burger.” This delicious alternative to numerous vegetarian options includes strips of beef with white cheddar cheese, cucumber, avocado, shredded carrots and red pepper, all complemented by a simple dressing of mayonnaise and salsa and encased within a spinach wrap. The flavor of the meat is delicious; the “salad” brings a different and refreshing set of flavors, and the salsa-mayo adds creaminess plus just a touch a spice.

Match Burger

MATCH (South Norwalk) I am a bit biased in this selection since I was involved with its creation, but if my visual inspection on a few Thursday nights is any indication, the Thursday Burger Special is a great success. The MATCH burger includes fantastic local meat from Greyledge Farms, a house made cheddar-bacon béchamel sauce, caramelized onions with a touch of balsamic vinegar all encased in an onion brioche. Add a huge portion of Chef Matt Storch’s perfect (could be the best) French fries and this combination is a Fairfield County Elite Hamburger.

Shake Shack (Westport) As another poster mentioned, timing is everything and the opening of Danny Meyer’s Westport extension of his NYC hamburger mecca occurred immediately after the original article. As reported in a separate commentary, I very much enjoyed the Shack Burger, the Shack-gago Dog and several Shake Shack Shakes (affectionately named Concretes). All were delicious.

I want to thank everyone who offered suggestions, both on the site and elsewhere. This concludes the 2011 Hamburger search and I now continue my quest for winter comfort foods. Stay tuned.
