Ad: Play With Your Food - Spots Still Open in Fairfield!!

Play with your food? Say no more. I'm in. Actually I am in and have been an active subscribers with Play With Your Food for years. For all you newbies in the midst, the concept is simple. During their 12noon -1:30 p.m. program, audiences are first treated to a pre-performance buffet lunch (catered by venues such as Nicholas Roberts, DaPietro's, and The Pantry), before enjoying 3 one-act plays and a follow-up discussion with the actors.  It is a combined social and theatrical experience, diverse and compelling entertainment to be savored mid-day during the work week. It is also the perfect break from suburban life.

CTbites readers, take note…The Greenwich and Westport 2011 season are sold out but there are still spots available in Fairfield. When Play With Your Food (PWYF) hits the Fairfield stage on January 18, the short plays will include two comedies and an edge-of-your-seat thriller. The latter is a reading of the classic radio play, Sorry, Wrong Number. “Lucille Fletcher, the author, was nicknamed ‘the Queen of scream,’” notes Schweid. “She was such a successful writer of suspense for radio and television.”  Play With Your Food Fairfield will be held at the intimate Fairfield Theatre Company on Sanford Street.

And now back to the food. The (always delicious) Pantry will be catering the Fairfield shows. Here's what's on the menu for January 18th: Roasted Salmon Salad with red leaf lettuce and herb mayo on Brioche Roll; Smoked turkey and brie with watercress on 7 grain bread;  Green bean salad with tomato-pesto and lemon dressing; Spinach salad with toasted sesame seed, grilled red onion and orange sections with sesame dressing; and The Pantry’s signature chocolate chip, world peace and sugar cookies. Raus coffee is provided by Barcelona Restaurant

Schweid is making use of a wide pool of talent in selecting actors to read for the PWYF season. “Putting the right cast together is an important element of Play With Your Food,’ she says. “Luckily, we live in an area that is filled with accomplished actors, Tony Award winners and leading Broadway and film and TV performers. We also are acquainted with some important young working actors from New York and Fairfield County .”

Upcoming Fairfield Theatre Company dates are Tuesdays, January 18, February 15, March 15 and April 12. Play With Your Food also appears in Westport and Greenwich. Advance reservations required. For detailed schedule information or to purchase tickets, $43, call (203) 293-8831 or visit www.playwithyourfood.org

Don't miss this unique culinary and cultural event.
