October is National Pizza Month and any way you slice it, pizza reigns as one of America's favorite foods. A mere glance at those pizza pics has me drooling all over my keyboard. Crunchy, chewy, cheesy, oil dripping into the palm of your hand. NY style? Brick oven? I may need a moment.
Even amongst the best of friends, the debate over top pizza picks have the power to cause serious contention.

STILL sticking with PEPE'S PIZZA in fairfield. the crust just CAN'T be beat. clam or no clam, it rocks my world!!!
I am not going to get into the New Haven apizza sandbox and say that Sally's is better than Pepe's (it is) but will stick to closer to home entries. My go-to pizza is Joe's in New Canaan, a bacon and tomato pie is my favorite, and if I want to travel a bit then Colony, Fat Cat and Strada 18 come into play.
Picking your favorite pizza joint is liking picking your favorite child. You love them all for different reasons. If I'm in New Haven, we go to Modern Apizza. Our go-to is Lauretano's in Bethel. And there is some damn good pizza happening in Brooklyn, but that's for another blog altogether.
I am up for going to any of the aforementioned places. But when we want to stay close to home (esp. after a flik at the Garden) we opt for a pie overwhelmed with veggies, garlic and onions at Fat Cat . We savor it while sitting at the bar and enjoying a few good glasses of red.
Gotta stick with the oldie but goodie, Colony in Stamford and none of that fancy, new, pretty "brick walled" stuff they have in Fairfield. Just that good ol'-like they've made it forever, dirty-run down, weird part of town, where they "yell at you if you don't order correctly" pie in Stamford. Mmmm delish!
Stanziato's...!! Unique crust and super fresh ingredients...!
Abate in New Haven. Trust me on this. I'm also a fan of Nauti Dolphin in Fairfield... a big fan!
I grew up eating Colony pizza & it will always be my all time favorite. But, recently, I've fallen for Bar Pizza in New Haven. It's so good!!
Fat Cat Pies get my vote... proscuitto, olive and jalapeno peppers with a side salad piled atop the pizza... y-u-m...
Roseland in Derby has an awesome parm pie - thin crust with a light layer of sauce and parm, no mozz to muck up the flavor. It doesn't get any simpler or better than that. They also have a broccoli rabe and sausage appetizer that is pretty amazing, too. Not to mention their delicious and HUGE arugula salad...
If I need a quick fix, the broccoli rabe and sausage pie from Carmanuccio's in Newtown is the ticket.
Having been to Pepe's, Sally's, Colony, Nauti Dolphin and Fat Cat - I don't mind the 30 minute drive to Roseland, I can't say the same about the others. Although, Fat Cat's phenomenal cheese plate and stellar wine/beer selection, have been known to drag this country bumpkin out of her comfy digs for a bite.
So hard to pick! Currently the winner is probably Brick Oven in Black Rock. Gluten Free crust is a fabulous option!
Soo many good places in the area for pizza. Current faves include Pepe's, Acropolis or Paradise PIzza in Stratford,
Fat Cat if we have the extra time to get there. If not, Papa Joe's in Darien is really good.
Fat Cat house-made sausage pie. Perfection!
fat cat is like cardboard.
I think Molto Pizza in Fairfield is decent. Julian's in Westport/Monroe isn't bad either. Pepe's is solid but overhyped
Need to try Stanziatos and Nauti
In New Haven it's Sally's by a mile..............
Here in Fairfield County I find the Brick Oven wood fired Apizza at Julian's on RT 25 in Monroe.
A new Haven style pie with just sauce and grated Romano Cheese is my favorite, but a bacon and tomatoe pie is also great,
While there are many very good pizzas around from Pepe's to Roseland to Zupardi's to Colony to Coal House to Pizzeria Lauretano my choice would have to be Sally's in New Haven. No one has a crust which in my opinion is crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, plus the tomato sauce is fabulous, the only pie there that is sub par is their clam pie because of canned clams but their fresh Summer pie with fresh tomato, zucchini and onion is ''to die for''. I know their service is sometimes below par and they have the secret reservation number but in my book it's a small price to pay for one of the best pizzas in the state.
We've been going to / ordering from Italia Pizzeria Restaurant on Main ave, Norwalk for years and years. Their Clams Casino (we always get the white) is out of this world.
Via Sforza in Norwalk
Portofinos in Wilton makes the best.Sicilian pies!
Villa Italia in Stamford. Nothing fancy, just great pizza.
Chef Jeff's pizzas, of course!
I can eat pizza everyday of my life and never tire of it. I grew up in NYC where pizza is king. The pizza in CT has certainly improved over the years I've been here. I would say that the Sicilian at Portofino's challenges some of the best in NY, Pepe's is great for clam pizza, and Fat Cat, although it is cracker crust thin, makes a good caramelized onion and broccoli rabe, and the kids like the sausage pizza. My husband loves Coal House Pizza in Stamford.
I want to try Stanziato's in Danbury. It was closed on the Sunday we went there.
Julian's and Acqua both in Westport
I would have to go with Colony Grill - nothing better than their hot oil or Stinger Pizza. I am going to be thinking about that pie for the rest of the day !
