Food Talk > Anyone tried Molto in Fairfield yet?

We are wondering if people have eaten at Molto in Fairfield and what your thoughts are on the food, service etc. Anyone? Anyone?

As a Westport resident, I like to get out and sample the new restaurants in neighboring towns, and I think Fairfield has finally made its mark as a solid dining destination with a range of good choices, so I couldn't wait for the new Molto to open. The spare bistro vibe and the cozy red banquettes make this a must-try restaurant for friends who seek a casual bite and a cocktail in an atmosphere with a little edge. I don't recommend it for families with young kids. That said, it's got a Manhattan vibe with fresh, clean salads and delicious, homemade bread, served with excellent extra virgin olive oil. What I like about this place is that everything is simple—the breads are as good as those from the Bronx, the salads are crisp and fresh and have vinaigrettes with the right acidic balance, the antipasti are light and well-presented (try the fresh mozzarella and prosciutto) and the pizzas are darned good for a place with an oven that hasn't had time to become seasoned. Although I haven't sampled the entrees yet (I dined there at lunch), what I did try was tasty but not fussy—simple and satisfying. The service was attractive and attentive, if a little eager. The only drawback to my mind was the din. It can get loud, particularly because they've chosen to run a huge projection TV on one of the walls that resembles a living mural. After a few glasses of a good Chianti (lots of nicely priced wines by the bottle or glass), I hardly noticed the TV and melted happily into my booth.

"crappiest" meal i have ever had. Food has always been excellent and was this evening as well, however, we were outside at a table over a manhole cover. The most foul odor started wafting up sporadically. We asked our waiter if anyone had ever complained of the smell and he said no. Another person served us our pizza and we asked if he was the owner, to which he responded yes. We told him about the smell and he said that it was something that they had complained about to the town, but that they would not help them and he proceeded to walk away. I guess the idea of not sitting someone over something that smells that awful never occurred to them. My wife will probably be the next post as she appears frustrated at the lack of depth of the description of the smell in my post.

Meal was okay- service was horrible...not wait staff but hostess...looks like she slipped out of study hall early to get to work and had a horrible attitude. Not a best way to start an evening- really went down hill after that.
