What do people think of Manolo (where Zest used to be)?? I've heard mixed reviews...

Manolo is excellent. We have been 3-4 times since the holidays and it's consistent - high quality thoughtful food, cozy atmosphere and caring service. The great thing about this place is that you can try half orders or double up an appetizer. We adore the polenta- creamy with just the right amount of truffle. The tuna tartare is perfect as is the skirt steak. They also offer a 1//3 bottle servings of wine. Only dish that I'll rate "fair" was the ice cream sampler we tried one night- a bit bland. We are so happy to have this fine place in Westport- a town soooo in need of reasonable great food!

We had a very disappointing experience at Manolo this past weekend. We, along with another couple, had an 8pm reservation on Saturday night. When the waiter came to take our order, 2 of us wanted the filet, and 2 of us wanted the lamb chops. It was only then, when we ordered, that we were told the kitchen was out of both. How this is possible at 8pm on a Saturday night, I do not know. For those of you who have been there, it's a small menu....probably 8 entrees total. So all we were left with were 3 fish choices, chicken, and 2 vegetarian pasta choices. To offer no red meat on a Saturday night is pretty bad. Not only were they out of those two entrees but when our friend ordered a caesar salad, he was told the kitchen was out of ROMAINE LETTUCE! At this point, we did start to complain and the waiter wasn't very understanding. I would really expect a restaurant like that to offer to comp us either our first course or our coffees/desserts and send over the manager to apologize. They did neither. The entrees we all did wind up ordering were quite good but the service was really horrible.
