Nibble: CT Food Events For Week of January 21-28

On Monday January 22, Chef Tyler Anderson of Millwright’s and Pastry Chef Kristin will cook at the historic James Beard House in NYC.  Join them, along with Top Chef contestants Joe Flamm and Bruce Kalman, for hors d’oeuvres and a five course dinner.  It starts at 7pm and costs $160 for members and $210 for the public. 

Two Road’s 4th Annual Igor's Dream Dessert Pairing will unfold on Monday January 22 from 6:30-9pm.  Sweet Cupcasions, Wildflour Confections, Lovely Cakes, and Hardcore Sweet Cupcakes have all come up with the ultimate sweet treats to pair with the Igor’s Dream beer line-up.  A $30 ticket gives you the chance to try 4 oz tasters of the 4 new release brews as well as one of each dessert pairing. 

Brewport’s Big Game and Beer Dinner will take place on Monday January 22.  They’ll switch up their specialty pizzas and salads with ingredients like wild boar, elk, bison, and venison.  Tickets are $50, inclusive of gratuity but exclusive of tax.  Call 203-612-4438 and ask for Lauren or a manager to reserve your spot. 

Baldanza and South Avenue Butcher, both in New Canaan, are teaming up for another dinner, this time centering on “Comfort Food,” on Tuesday January 23.  Choose from soup or salad, an entrée, and dessert for $75 per person. 

Washington Prime in SoNo presents an Orin Swift Wine Dinner on Tuesday January 23 from 7-9:30pm.  The 5-course wine pairing dinner costs $95 per person (plus tax and gratuity) and reservations must be made in advance by calling 203-857-1314. 

The Blind Rhino invites you to a game dinner on Wednesday January 24 at 7pm.  The evening includes welcome appetizers, a 6 course meal, and beer, wine, and liquor pairings.  It costs $90 per person, which includes tax and tip.  Call them at 203-956-7243. 

On Thursday January 25, Terrain’s Head Chef, Jes Bengtson, will host a bread making class.  It will include light hors d’oeuvres and a bread pot to take home in addition to the instruction itself.  Purchase tickets here for $65 per person.

New Haven’s “Flights of Fancy” returns on Thursday January 25.  The annual shopping, wine and food tasting crawl features a reception and welcome party at The Shubert Theatre, exclusive in-store discounts, raffle prizes, gifts for attendees, a photo booth, and more.  Check in between 4:30 and 7:15pm before proceeding to participating stops. 

From January 24-28, Norwalk Now will present “Norwalk City Limits” a 5-day long music event featuring local talent performing at participating Norwalk Now restaurants, shops, and attractions.  See the full schedule here:

Mohegan Sun’s Wine and Food Fest is this weekend!  Food and drink inspired events will take place at the casino from Friday January 25-Sunday January 27.  In addition to Saturday's Grand Tasting, you can also register for a Celebrity Chef Dine Around, Bourbon Tasting, Brunch with Martha Stewart, and more. Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse in West Hartford will have a Silver Oak Winery & Twomey Cellars Wine Dinner on Friday January 26 starting at 6:30pm.  The five course dinner features dishes like Crispy Duck, Citrus Cured Salmon, and Cocoa Kona Crusted Filet along with respective wine pairings.  It costs $125 per guest and reservations can be made by calling 860-676-9463.  https://www.facebook.com/events/726367580893006 

The Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce will offer a called Supper & Soul, a dinner and concert series. A $75 ticket entitles participants to a 3 course meal at one of five downtown restaurants, followed by a concert at the Seabury Center and happy hour pricing for drinks at the same restaurants.  The first one will take place on Saturday evening January 27. http://www.westportwestonchamber.com/supper

Butchers & Bakers in Farmington will hold an “Intro to Butchery” class on Saturday January 27 from 12-1:30pm.  It will focus ocusing on charcuterie and how to make it in your own home.  During the demo, guests will sample 5-6 plates featuring the recipes being taught.  It costs approximately $77 per person and tickets can be purchases online. 

Wave Hill Breads continues its cooking class series on Saturday January 27 with “Bread and Broth: The Perfect Pair.”  Nit Noi Provisions owner, North Shutsharawan, will also be there to show participants how to make vegetarian and bone broths, and which breads pair with soups made from them.  It runs from 3:30-5:30pm and costs $85 per person.

The next day, kids can visit Wave Hill Breads for “Bento Lunch Box Ideas: Fun with Fresh Breads.”  Working with our fresh sliced Honey Whole Wheat and Buttermilk White breads, kids and parents will create sushi-style sandwich roll-ups, using locally sourced, healthy fillings.  It runs from 12:30-2:30pm and costs $85 for a child-adult duo.

The 17th Annual Connecticut Real Ale Festival will take place on Sunday January 28, this time at “Brewport” in Bridgeport CT.  All casks are prepared expressly for the Connecticut Real Ale Fest and a $45 ticket gets you entry, a collector’s glass, two 5 oz samples, and two slices of Brewport’s pizza. Taste of Fairfield - WinterFest will take place on Sunday January 28 at the Brooklawn Country Club from 12-4pm.  The event, which benefits Operation Hope, brings together restaurants, markets, vintners, distillers, and brewers.  There will also be music, standup comedy, bowling, and more entertainment.
