Nibble: CT Food Events For Week Of July 2-9

The Port in Westport is now serving lunch daily right on the Saugatuck River. Happy Hour is on Monday-Friday 4:30-6 with 1/2 price drinks and Tangled Vine will be performing on the patio July 8th, 9PM. 

The Third Annual Riverfront Food Truck Festival returns to Hartford July 6-8.  Over 25 trucks will be participating, including Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ, Poutine Gourmet, and New Haven Pizza Truck. 

The Downtown Bridgeport Farmers Market kicks off its summer 2017 season on Thursday July 6!  Find it at McLevy Green, the corner of State and Bank Streets.  Opening day vendors include 203 Coffee and Tea, A Pinch of Salt, Sweet Cupcasions, Elegantly Casual Cuisine, Essentially Handmade, and more.  Join them from 10:30am-2pm. 

Chop Shop’s summer cooking classes continue on Thursday July 6 with a class on the “Farmers Market Bounty.”  The menu includes Breakfast Radish Toasts; Herbed Zucchini Feta Fritters; Chicken Milanese and Zucchini Carbonara.  It costs $80 per person and runs from 7-9pm.  

Oak Haven Table in New Haven invites you to a Summer Nights Rare Whiskey Tasting on Thursday July 6.  The line-up features Weller Antique 107, Weller 12 Year Old, Elmer T. Lee, Colonel E.H. Taylor Four Grain, Basil Hayden RYE Whiskey, High West Yippee Ki-Yay Blended Rye Batch 3, High West A Midwinter Nights Dram Act 4 Scene 1, Stranahan's Diamond Peak, and two special selections from Knob Creek and Russell’s.  As you sip, snack on cheese, charcuterie, fried risotto balls, and chocolate truffles.  It costs $90 per person and begins at 6:30pm. 

Millstone Farm in Wilton presents a Backyard Farming Series.  On Friday July 7, their “Backyard Chickens” session will teach participants the basics of raising and keeping your own laying and meat birds.  Email info@millstonefarm.org for more information.

The 2017 New England Balloon Festival takes over the Goshen Fairgrounds Friday July 7 from 2-10pm, Saturday July 8 from 11am-10pm, and Sunday July 9 from 8am-8pm.  In addition to five balloon launches and other balloon inspired activities, there will be a food truck festival with mobile eats from NYC, Boston, and all over New England!  There will also be live music, local vendors, power sports, and more.

Jones Family Farms has launches Summer Wine Downs on Friday nights from 4-7pm.  Take in live music while enjoying farm fresh produce, seasonal snacks from the Harvest Kitchen, and wine.  The evenings are family-friendly (with wine available for the 21+ crowd only). 

Frosé is all the rage this summer.  Stop by Mecha in South Norwalk for their rendition of the cocktail made with rosé, pamplemousse liqueur, Campari, and grapefruit juice.

Preston Ridge Vineyard in Preston, CT has started a Summer Brunch Series on Sundays at 10am.  Chef John from On The Spot Catering will prepare classic breakfast items as guests enjoy a complementary glass of Preston Ridge wine and select barrel tastings.  Kids are welcome, but only those 21 and older may be served alcohol.
