Craft 260 hosts their anticipated home brewer’s competition on Monday January 18.  Contestants will bring their homemade concoctions to be judged by guests from Sierra Nevada, Two Roads Brewery, and more.  Come by to see who wins!  

If one of your resolutions involves honing your culinary skills, you might consider joining the Cookbook Club in New Milford.  This week, they’ll focus on one pot wonders from Martha Stewart Living.  Meet at the Candlewood Valley Country Club on January 18 from 7-8:30pm.  There is no cost involved.

Fleisher’s Westport presents “Pork Butchery 101” on Tuesday January 19.  Learn about where pork comes from, different cuts, and cooking techniques with expert butchers.  Tickets are $100 per person. 

On Wednesday January 20, The Stamford Innovation Center will be the venue for “Making Products People Want: The Nothin’ But Granola Story.”  Jerri Graham started the business in her home, and turned it into a national brand.  Learn about how they did that and try some samples!  It begins at 6:30pm and tickets start at about $17.  

Walrus + Carpenter in Bridgeport hosts a special edition of their Brewgrass and Whole Pig Roast on Thursday January 21.  In addition to the live music and hog roast, there will also be a Stone Brewing and Sierra Nevada Tap Takeover.  

Ristorante Firenze has announced a wine dinner on Wednesday January 20.  The evening centers on Terrazze dell'Etna, a Sicilian winery. Octopus Salad, Beets & Arugula, di Manzo Cavatelli with a Short Rib Ragú, and more.  It is $60 per person, plus tax and gratuity.  Space is limited. 

Think you know what makes a tasty pasta?  Project Pasta wants you to taste different kinds and give them your feedback.  On Wednesday January 20 at 5:30pm, visit EleMar in New Haven.  You’ll be presented with gluten free, vegan, and grain free pastas before receiving a questionnaire.  The event is free (though donations are welcome), but attendees must RSVP.    

Fairfield Cheese Co. wants to teach you cheese basics in “Cheese 101.”  Try some of their best cheeses alongside complementing wines.  It goes from 7-9pm.  

Sur La Table in Canton, CT has a number of classes this week.  Start the week with “Perfect Pizza from Scratch” or “Croissants 101.”  End on Friday January 22 with “Date Night in Tuscany.”  Full schedule here.

Tickets are on sale now for The Blind Rhino’s “SoNo Bowl” event on Sunday February 7, with Welcome to CT's Ken Tuccio.  From 4pm to kickoff, a $15 ticket includes an open bar, games, and contests. 

The Knights of Columbus in Greenwich invite you to their “Burns Supper!” on January 22 at 6pm.  The evening embraces Robert Burns and all things Scottish: complete with Scott inspired hors d'oeuvres, a buffet dinner, drinks… and of course, lots of haggis!  

Tickets for the Mohegan Sun WineFest are on sale now!  The annual extravaganza spans the weekend of January 29-31 and features Celebrity Chef Rocco Dispirito.

Looking ahead...

Two Roads Brewing is hosting their first-ever Igor's Dream dessert pairing event, 7pm-9pm on January 25th. They've paired four of our limited and brewery only beers with four local CT desserts to create a tasty combination of mouth-watering goodness. Dessert pairings include Tipsy Cones, Donut Crazy, NORA Cupcake and Cannoli's on the Run. 

Barcelona Fairfield continues their “Cocktail Classroom” series with the gin and tonic on January 27.  It starts at 7pm and costs $35 per person (plus tax and gratuity.)  Reservations are required and can be made here:

Napa and Company will host another installation of their winter wine classes on Monday January 25 with biodynamic wines.
